Results and Discussion. Of the 12 samples of starch graft copolymer synthesized, half were hydrolyzed to anionic polyelectrolytes. Synthesis data on these 6 samples are given in Table 2. These particular samples were chosen for hydrolysis because the samples can be intercompared to see the effect of synthesis variables on ultimate product properties. Samples 5, 8, and 11 have the same mole ratio of cerium ion to starch backbone, N, in their reaction mixture. Samples 7, 8, and 9 all have the same refctable mass per starch molecule,...

Vinylmagnesiumchloride was also used to produce PMMA macromonomers [115]. Using similar techniques, several macromonomers have been prepared by the anionic polymerization of ethylene oxide, butadiene, isoprene, 2-vinylpyri-dine, a-methylstyrene, vinylpyrrolidone etc. Table 2 summarizes the data reported in the literature concerning the synthesis of graft copolymers with anionically prepared macromonomers. 

Table 4 summarizes the data reported on the synthesis of graft copolymers through macromonomers prepared by polycondensation methods. 

The light-induced synthesis of polymers is the topic of Part III. While the various modes of photoinitiation of polymerization processes are discussed in Chapter 10, related technical applications are treated in Chapter 11. The latter include curing of coatings and dental systems, printing plates (used to print newspapers), holography (important for data storage), and the synthesis of block-and-graft copolymers.
