Swelling subcutaneous

Potassium Iodide. When potassium iodide [7681-11-0] is adrninistered orally for several (6—8) weeks, a therapeutic effect may be obtained ia the subcutaneous form of sporotrichosis. Amphotericin B is used iatravenously to treat systemic sporotrichosis. The KI dosage is usually a saturated solution ia water (1 g/mL). The usual oral dose is 30 mg/kg/d. Children should receive five droplets, three times a day (after meals) the dose may be iacreased to 15—20 droplets. Side effects iaclude digestive disorders, swelling of the saUvary glands, and lacrimation. Thyroid function tests may be disturbed. [Pg.255]

Gonadorelin can cause headache, light-headedness, nausea, and flushing. Local swelling often occurs at subcutaneous injection sites. Generalized hypersensitivity dermatitis has occurred after long-term subcutaneous administration. Rare acute hypersensitivity reactions include bronchospasm and anaphylaxis. Sudden pituitary apoplexy and blindness have... [Pg.839]

Bai Jie Zi is warm in nature and enters the Lung meridian. It is pungent and dispersing, spreads the Qi, expels cold-phlegm and reduces swelling of the joints, muscles and subcutaneous region. It treats numbness, stiffness, cramping and pain of the muscles and joints. [Pg.239]

Some patients experience discomfort and frequent swelling at the site of injection. As a consequence, sublingual immunotherapy has been explored in Europe. An extract of allergens is placed under the tongue for a couple of minutes and is then swallowed. The dose for sublingual immunotherapy is 3-300 times greater than that for subcutaneous immunotherapy. This form of therapy is more effective for... [Pg.141]

A 43-year-old man with type 1 diabetes developed local pruritus, redness, and swelling 4—5 times a week, 15-20 minutes after an injection, subsiding within 1-2 hours (163). Later he had a generalized urticarial reaction 5 minutes after an injection. Insulin lispro did not help. When checked for allergens, he was positive for all types of insulin and negative for additives. With oral mizolastine the local reactions abated for a week, but then reappeared with every injection. Generalized urticaria recurred later. With continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion... [Pg.402]

Chronic subcutaneous GHRH therapy causes injection site reactions (pain, swelling, erythema) in about 20% of patients. Other reported adverse reactions have included headaches, flushing, dysphagia, dizziness, hyperactivity, somnolence, and urticaria. [Pg.853]

Fig. 3.1. Collagen-induced arthritis in FLAP-deficient mice. DBA/1 mice were immunized with chick type II collagen on day 0 and 21. IL-1 was administered subcutaneously on days 45 and 46 to trigger an arthritic flare. Disease severity was scored by observation of the paws for redness and swelling. Open circles, +/+ mice closed triangles, +/-mice open squares, -/- mice. Results are mean SEM, n = three experiments. Fig. 3.1. Collagen-induced arthritis in FLAP-deficient mice. Angioedema—an allergic symptom of skin swelling that results from a similar process causing urticaria (hives), but the swelling occurs beneath the skin instead of on the surface. Angioedema is characterized by the presence of fluid in subcutaneous... [Pg.399]

Cellulitis is a skin infection of the dermis and subcutaneous tissues. It is characterised by redness, swelling, pain and inflammation. A common symptom is fever. Cellulitis is caused by bacterial infection, most commonly Streptococcus (group A) and Staphylococcus. [Pg.307]

Sensitization assays involve mixing the material or extract that has been in contact with a device with Freund s complete adjuvant and injection of the test sample into the subcutaneous tissue during a 2-week induction period (37). After 2 weeks, the material or extract is placed on the skin near the injection site for 24 hours, and then the skin is evaluated for redness and swelling. [Pg.113]

The term oedema (ro oihruta = the swelling) describes an increase in the extracellular fluid volume as a result of isotonic hyperhydration. Oedema is a symptom with multiple causes, yet not an illness. The term anasarca refers to a massive, generalized soaking of the subcutaneous tissue ( tissue dropsy ), (s. fig. 16.2)... [Pg.289]

Aluminium causes histological changes at injection sites, and these stain with hematoxylin and eosin (53). Of four patients studied, one had a sclerosing lipogranu-loma-hke reaction with unhned cystic spaces containing crystalline material. Another presented as a large symptomatic subcutaneous swelling, which microscopically showed diffuse and widespread involvement of the subcutaneous tissues by a lymphoid infiltrate with prominent lymphoid follicles. [Pg.100]

A 74-year-old man with a permanent latex condom catheter developed penile swelling that was non-pitting and involved the subcutaneous tissue of a normal scrotum, after taking lisinopril 5 mg/day for 6 days (86). Removal of the catheter had no effect. After other possible causes were ruled out, ACE inhibitor-induced angioedema was suspected and lisinopril was withdrawn. Within a few days, the swelling, which had not spread, resolved. [Pg.231]

Local reactions to subcutaneous infusion of apomorphine in the nose and throat include swelling of the nose and lips, stomatitis, and buccal mucosal ulceration. [Pg.329]

Hereditary angioedema, which is characterized by episodic bouts of swelling of submucosal and subcutaneous tissue, is due to a hereditary abnormality of Cl esterase inhibitor, either a deficiency of the normal enzyme or more rarely the presence of an abnormal enzyme. If Cl esterase inhibitor deficiency can be demonstrated, infusion of concentrated Cl esterase inhibitor is effective in treating the attack. In three studies, no adverse effects were recorded (1-3). [Pg.587]
