Butyl-type polymers exhibit high damping, and the viscous part of the dynamic modulus is uniquely broad as a function of frequency or temperature. Molded mbber parts for damping and shock absorption find wide appHcation in automotive suspension bumpers, auto exhaust hangers, and body mounts. 

Isobutylene-based polymers exhibit high damping and have imiquely broad damping and shock absorption ranges in both temperature and frequency. Molded rubber parts from butyl and halobutyl find wide applications in automobile suspension bumpers, exhaust hangers, and body moimts. 

Under the chassis suspension parts, belly pans, plugs, bumpers, grommets. .. 

The other kind of systems largely studied, consists of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) or silica spherical particles, suspended in organic solvents [23,24]. In these solvents Q 0 and uy(r) 0. The particles are coated by a layer of polymer adsorbed on their surface. This layer of polymer, usually of the order of 10-50 A, provides an entropic bumper that keeps the particles far from the van der Waals minimum, and therefore, from aggregating. Thus, for practical purposes uw(r) can be ignored. In this case the systems are said to be sterically stabilized and they are properly considered as suspensions of colloidal particles with hard-sphere interaction [the pair potential is of the form given by Eq. (5)]. 

Applications of Microcelluiar Elastomers. Microcellular elastomers are widely used for various shock absorbing materials in automotive applications such as bumper cores, shock-absorbing elements in vehicle-suspension elements, machines, electrical equipment, cameras, precision machines, shoe soles and heels, and sports shoes. 

PP/EPDM TPV for automotive applications include rack and pinion bellows, air ducts, underhood tubing and connector, underhood hose, plugs, bumpers, grommets, prop rod shaft cover, radiator air deflector, air bag door covers and skins, grips, seals, mats and cupholders, windshield wiper motor cover, fuel line hose, suspension bellows, and weatherseals. EPDM/PP TPV was also used for construction such as door sweep, expansion joints, and window and door seals. Electronic applications include scroll wheel, printer roller, scanner lid, grip, access panel door, speaker surrounds, and holders and bumpers. Also, TPVs are widely used in business machines, power tools, motor mounts, and many other fields. 

Exterior body parts, suspensions, chassis, load floors, bumpers, driveshafts, lead springs, underhood components, and automotive frames... 

Hip Disarticulation Amputation Prostheses. The Canadian hip disarticulation prosthesis, introduced in the United States in 1954, is still used almost univers ly today. It consists of a foot, a shank, a prosthetic knee, a thigh, a hip joint/bumper/control strap, and a socket (Fig. 33.16). The hip disarticulation socket is essentially a bucket, providing a seat for the ischial tuberosity, medial-lateral stability, suspension, and support for weight bearing.
