To support coil deposition of wide-necked aneurysms a detachable device, the TriSpan (Boston Scientific, Fremont, USA) was designed and approved for clinical use in Europe. The TriSpan can be placed at the base of the aneurysm prior to coil embolization which is delivered through a second microcatheter. The TriSpan acts as a supporting structure and bridges the neck for subsequent coils. However, experience with this new device is limited mainly to broad-based basilar tip aneurysms. Since it is combined with an additional catheter the procedure is somewhat more complex and not really widely used. [Pg.220]

Coreless furnaces derive their name from the fact that the coil encircles the metal charge but, in contrast to the channel inductor described later, the cod does not encircle a magnetic core. Figure 8 shows a cross section of a typical medium sized furnace. Recommended methods for assessing the corrosivity of waters, including flowing potable waters, are described in ASTM 02688 1983. Three procedures are described in which test specimens in the form of wires, sheets or tubes are placed in pipes, tanks or other equipment. The test assembly for the first of these consists of three helical wire coils mounted in series on, and electrically insulated from, a supporting frame. The drawback of the described adsorbents is the leakage of the bonded phase that may occur after the change of eluent or temperature of operation when the equilibrium of the polymer adsorption is disturbed. In order to prepare a more stable support Dulout et al. [31] introduced the treatment of porous silica with PEO, poly-lV-vinylpyrrolidone or polyvinylalcohol solution followed by a second treatment with an aqueous solution of a protein whose molecular weight was lower than that of the proteins to be separated. Possibly, displacement of the weakly adsorbed coils by the stronger interacting proteins produce an additional shrouding of the polymer-coated supports. After the weakly adsorbed portion was replaced, the stability of the mixed adsorption layer was higher. [Pg.144]
