Supply chain specifications the need to define what the supply chain must do. [Pg.76]

This chapter proposes ways to take globalization into account in managing supply chains. Specific objectives include the following ... [Pg.96]

There are several ways to include detectability of disruption risks in supply chain risk models. One way is to directly use the values in the MFPT matrix, the ntij values, and create an objective function to minimize the number of transitions between suppliers and the buyer. Otherwise, the MFPT values may not be suitable to use directly in risk quantification since values in the MFPT matrix are in transitions and need to be transformed to actual time units (e.g., hours, days, or weeks) for proper use in disruption quantification. This transformation to time units is supply chain specific, since the speed with which the information spreads through the nodes depends on the information technology systems implemented at each node and the availability and strength of connection among the nodes. For instance, if a buyer has implemented an ERP system that allows communication with all tiers of his supply chain, he would have much better connectivity to any supplier and the transition times would be much shorter than buyers that do not have a similar visibility. We call the time it takes any disruption news to reach from node i to j as the disruption delay between nodes i and j and denote it as Aij. [Pg.411]

Emulsion polymerizations of vinyl acetate in the presence of ethylene oxide- or propylene oxide-based surfactants and protective coUoids also are characterized by the formation of graft copolymers of vinyl acetate on these materials. This was also observed in mixed systems of hydroxyethyl cellulose and nonylphenol ethoxylates. The oxyethylene chain groups supply the specific site of transfer (111). The concentration of insoluble (grafted) polymer decreases with increase in surfactant ratio, and (max) is observed at an ethoxylation degree of 8 (112). [Pg.466]

To tackle these problems successfully, new concepts will be required for developing systematic modeling techniques that can describe parts of the chemical supply chain at different levels of abstraction. A specific example is the integration of molecular thermodynamics in process simulation computations. This would fulfill the objective of predicting the properties of new chemical products when designing a new manufacturing plant. However, such computations remain unachievable at the present time and probably will remain so for the next decade. The challenge is how to abstract the details and description of a complex system into a reduced dimensional space. [Pg.87]

Apart from these potential problems, there is huge potential by applying supply chain methods and processes to increase competitiveness and decrease supply chain cost. The skills and competencies to realize (the vision of) supply chain management are not widely understood or readily available. Therefore focused education and training is required based on the industry s specific requirements. [Pg.17]

The resulting stock at the different locations of the supply chain is displayed in charts as in Figure 2.3. Additionally, the total stock, the different transportation costs and the costs for using the resources in Malaysia were taken into account and finally led to a recommendation for the floating stock concept together with a specific combination of decision variables. [Pg.27]

This is especially true for the pharmaceutical and the chemical industry where a great range of details have to be taken into account. To here successfully plan and optimize large supply chain scenarios it needs a specifically sophisticated combination of algorithms and heuristics [15,16, 29, 30]. [Pg.59]

The first question targets an enhancement of supply chain management towards value chain management with integrated volumes and value planning. The second question is related to a specific industry type as basis to... [Pg.5]

Here, it can bee seen that system modules are not directly matched to process structures defined in the Supply Chain Planning Matrix. Also, the asymmetry between market facing parts of procurement and sales are not intuitive. However, APS extend the perspective on business applications extending the classical tasks of ERP and transactional systems to a management and planning level. With APS implemented in multiple industries and validated specifically in the process industry (Schaub/Zeier 2003) or also for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) (Friedrich 2000), importance will further grow. [Pg.48]

Special SCM Concepts in addition, some industry-specific terms have been developed in the context of supply chain management in the last... [Pg.49]
