The Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index, commonly referred to as CASSI, gives details of the journals and related literature cited in Chemical Abstracts since 1907. In addition, CASSI contains entries for those publications covered by Chemische Zentralblatt and its predecessors from 1830-1969 and the publications cited by Beilstein prior to 1907. The most recent printed cumulative edition of CASSI spanned the period 1907-2004. Printed supplements to CASSI were published quarterly from 2005 to 2009. The fourth quarterly supplement each year cumulated and replaced the preceding three supplements, and was effectively an annual update. Publication of the printed edition of CASSI ceased in 2009, but CASSI remains available and updated in a searchable CD-ROM format (CASSI on CD, first produced in the 1990s). 

This CD-ROM is a companion to the book Elements cf Chemical Reaction Engineering, 3rd Edition, by H. Scott Fogler. It contains web browser-driven content intended to supplement the information in the book. 

The website and other media supplements, as described later in this Preface, have been enhanced. Specifically, the Digital Content Manager, a CD-ROM, contains electronic files of text figures and tables as well as PowerPoint lecture slides. 

PowerLecture Instructor s Resource CD-ROM This dual-platform CD-ROM is a digital library and presentation tool that includes Brooks/Gole s text-specific PowerPoint Lectures, which instructors can customize if desired by importing their own lecture slides or other materials. The CD also contains art, photos, and tables from the text in a variety of electronic formats, multimedia animations to supplement lectures, as well as the Instructor s Manual, Test Bank, and ExamView testing software. With ExamView s friendly interface, instructors can create, deliver, and customize tests based on questions authored specifically for this text. 

In compiling this Supplement the primary literature has been surveyed to the end of 1995. The printed supplement concentrates principally on important new natural products isolated during the period in question. A considerable number of amendments have been made during the review period to entries which have not been reprinted in the Supplement owing to space limitations. All of these can be accessed via the CD-ROM version. 

The CD-ROM and the online version of the Landolt-Bdmstein volume present a completely revised and supplemented version of the older Landolt-Bomstein volumes ni/17 and ni/22 on semiconductors. The printed edition of Vol. in/41 contains only a supplement to the earlier Volumes III/17 and in/22, but nevertheless the printed version of Vol. ni/41 extends to more than 4000 pages in the eight suhvolumes. If, in addition to the data in this Handbook, further or more detailed information is needed, the reader is recommended to consult [1.1].

Several commercial suppliers are listed in Section 6. In addition, many publishers of introductory chemistry textbooks also provide CD-ROM supplements that may consist of the illustrations and diagrams from the text, the complete text itself, simulations, and other material (e.g., Kotz and Vining ). In the United States, JCE Software publishes both laser disks and CD-ROM with many images and simulations, " and some publishers are beginning to provide pre-prepared lectures based on widely available presentation software. 

The reference works also include large compilations such as the Dictionary of Natural Products, published since 1994 by Chapman Hall. Seven initial volumes are regularly supplemented - the fourth was published in 1998 - and there is also an electronic version on CD-ROM, the same publisher also published a Dictionary of Steroids (two volumes, 1991). In association with CRC Press, Chapman Hall published in 2007 the Dictionary of Marine Natural Products, ]. Blunt, M.H.G. Munro, Eds, 2536 pp. This dictionary also contains a CD-ROM.
