Potassium Sulfate. Potassium sulfate is a preferred form of potash for crops that have a low tolerance for chloride. Tobacco and potatoes ate two such crops. K2SO4 is produced most often from langbeinite by metathetical reaction in aqueous solution ... [Pg.232]

Potassium permanganate reacts with hydrogen peroxide in dilute sulfuric acid to form manganous sulfate, potassium sulfate, and evolving oxygen. A molecular equation for this reaction is ... [Pg.770]

Potassium sulfate is used in fertilizers as a source of potassium and sulfur, both of which are essential elements for plant growth. Either in simple form or as a double salt with magnesium sulfate, potassium sulfate is one of the most widely consumed potassium salts in agricultural apphcations. It is preferred over potassium chloride for certain types of crops such as, tobacco, citrus, and other chloride—sensitive crops. Some other applications include making gypsum cements to make potassium alum in the analysis of Kjeldahl nitrogen and in medicine. [Pg.774]

Sulfates. Potassium sulfate. [CAS 7778-80-5], sulfate of potash, K2.SO4, white solid, soluble. Common constituent of potassium salt minerals. Used (l)as an important potassium fertilizer, (2) in the preparation of potassium or potash alums potassium hydrogen sulfate, KHSO4, white solid, soluble potassium pyrosulfate. K2S2O7, white solid, soluble, formed by heating potassium hydrogen sulfate to complete loss ot H2O. See also Fertilizer. [Pg.1362]

Sodium Chloride Accurately weigh about 5 g of the sample, transfer into a 250-mL beaker, add 50 mL of water and 5 mL of 30% hydrogen peroxide, and heat on a steam bath for 20 min, stirring occasionally to ensure complete dissolution. Cool, and using silver and mercurous sulfate-potassium sulfate electrodes and stirring constantly, add 100 mL of water and 10 mL of nitric acid, and titrate with 0.05 N silver nitrate to a potentiometric endpoint. Calculate the percentage of sodium chloride in the sample by the formula... [Pg.11]

The solution obtained by reaction of nitric acid with phosphate rock can be treated by the addition of a soluble sulfate to precipitate part or nearly all of the calcium as calcium sulfate (gypsum or hemihydrate). In commercial processes, ammonium sulfate, potassium sulfate, and sulfuric acid have been used. Langbeinite (K2S04 2MgS04) has been used experimentally. The calcium sulfate may be separated by filtration or allowed to remain in the product. In most plants, the calcium sulfate is removed to produce a higher grade product. Chemical reactions are ... [Pg.395]

A limited amount of electroanalytical work has been done in sulfate melts. The oxygen electrode has been mentioned above for alkaline melts. In 1961, Liu (77,78) applied potentiometry, chronopotentiometry and coulometric titrations in lithium sulfate-potassium sulfate melts at 625°C using a silver reference electrode. An electromotive force series of limited scope and... [Pg.425]

Sample Problem A Write a balanced equation for the reaction shown in Figure 2.1 (on the previous page). A deep purple solution of potassium permanganate is titrated with a colorless solution of iron(II) sulfate and sulfuric acid. The products are iron(III) sulfate, manganese(II) sulfate, potassium sulfate, and water—all of which are colorless. [Pg.604]

Chemical reactions between these deposits and the protective surface oxide can lead to destruction of the oxide and rapid corrosive attack. In gas turbines, oxidized sulfur contaminants in fuel and chlorides from ingested air (marine atmospheres) tend to react to form salt deposits. The presence of sodium sulfate, potassium sulfate, and calcium sulfate together with magnesium chloride have been reported in such deposits for compressor-stage components [14]. Sodium sulfate is usually regarded as the dominant component of the salt deposits. [Pg.708]
