The tailoring of PE properties in commercial processes is achieved mostiy by controlling the density, molecular weight, MWD, or by cross-linking. Successful control of all reaction parameters enables the manufacture of a large family of PE products with considerable differences in physical properties, such as the softening temperatures, stiffness, hardness, clarity, impact, and tear strength. 

Automated controls for flocciJating reagents can use a feedforward mode based on feed turbidity and feed volumetric rate, or a feed-back mode incorporating a streaming current detector on the flocculated feed. Attempts to control coagulant addition on the basis of overflow turbidity generally have been less successful. Control for pH has been accomplished by feed-forward modes on the feed pH and by feed-back modes on the basis of clarifier feedwell or external reaction tank pH. Control loops based on measurement of feedwell pH are useful for control in apphcations in which flocculated sohds are internaUy recirculated within the clarifier feedwell. 

Introduction An accurate quantitative analysis of the discharge of pollutants from a process must be determined prior to the design and/or selection of control equipment. If the unit is properly engineered by utilizing the emission data as input to the control device and the code requirements as maximum-effluent limitations, most pollutants can be successfully controlled. 

Solving an indoor air quality problem is a cyclical process of data collection and hypothesis testing. A critical consideration with UF technology is the problem of fouling. Foulants interfere with UF by reducing product rates- sometimes drastically-and altering membrane selectivity. The story of a successful UF application is in many respects the story of how fouling was successfully controlled. Fouling must be considered at every step of UF process development in order to achieve success.

One response may be that it is possible to manage the red tide at the source of the bloom (8) or that there is no need to manage a red tide over vast areas, merely in localized ones that are of special interest. The point is moot until a suitable control agent is available. A considerable number of chemicals have been reviewed for possible red tide control substances, (9), and in retrospect this type of research is subject to ultimate failure because the first criterion of a successful control agent (chemical or biological) has not been considered. 

A successful control agent probably should be sought in the marine environment for three reasons. First, this is where the problem is and if a natural control agent has developed, this is where it should be found. Pollock (20) using DDT alone successfully controlled an epidemic of plague in Haifa in July 1947. 

This software model is a learning classifier system. Because classifier systems learn, they can be applied to the control of a dynamic system, such as a reactor or an instrument, which must process various types of samples under unpredictable conditions, even when the rules required for successful control are unknown. 

The substance-related disorders include disorders of intoxication, dependence, and withdrawal. Substance dependence or addiction can be viewed as a chronic illness that can be successfully controlled with treatment, but cannot be cured, and is associated with a high relapse rate.

Hypercholesterolaemia and hypertriglyceridaemia commonly occur in patients with severe proteinuria. It may be associated with a higher incidence of cardiovascular disease. There are several barriers to the successful control of bioprocesses due to particular circumstances that are related to their characteristics the complexities of microbial metabolisms, the nonlinearity of microbial reactions, the frequent use of batch and fed-batch operations, and the limited availability of sterihzable online sensors for important process variables such as cell and product concentrations. Furthermore, it is difficult to construct mathematical models that can predict the entire range of batch or fed-batch operations that many fermentation processes require.
