Finally, the important principle of subtractive analysis should be mentioned. Selective decomposition of the N-terminal residue is possible, for instance by deamination with nitrous acid or through oxidative deamination with ninhy-drin. Quantitative amino acid analysis before and after the reaction will show the absence of one amino acid in the hydrolysate of the treated sample. Obviously this is the residue with the free amino group hence it must have occupied the N-terminal position in the sequence. 

This technique applies to all nucleic acids. We originally pursued reduction due to the formation of Schiff bases with aldehyde addition to amino groups. A number of adducts may be chemically unstable as in a keto- or imine-state. Further, a number of aldehydes are unstable in addition reactions as Schiff bases. Reduction will stabilize these new adducts formed, and afford new and recognizable spots and their/ /. The fifth base analysis is based on a new demonstrable dNMP (J = 5.0,2.0 Figure 4 and 5), which seems to be a product of d AMP based on subtraction analysis by Ambis, where dAMP is diminished by as many counts as appears in the new base. Further, a proliferation of small adducts are revealed around the origin. Lastly, our candidates for Hm-dUMP and d(TG)MP are obliterated by reducing the hydroxyl moieties to water.

Grades, Quality Control. Fluorspar is marketed ia several grades metallurgical fluorspar (metspar) is sold as gravel, lump, or briquettes. The minimum acceptable assay is 60% effective calcium fluoride. The effective value is determined by subtracting from the contained calcium fluoride 2.5% for every percent of Si02 found ia the complete analysis apparently based on the following stoichiometry (1) ... 

Mixtures can be identified with the help of computer software that subtracts the spectra of pure compounds from that of the sample. For complex mixtures, fractionation may be needed as part of the analysis. Commercial instmments are available that combine ftir, as a detector, with a separation technique such as gas chromatography (gc), high performance Hquid chromatography (hplc), or supercritical fluid chromatography (96,97). Instmments such as gc/ftir are often termed hyphenated instmments (98). Pyrolyzer (99) and thermogravimetric analysis (tga) instmmentation can also be combined with ftir for monitoring pyrolysis and oxidation processes (100) (see Analytical methods, hyphenated instruments). 

Analysis and purities of the metal or compounds are determined by difference, subtracting the sum of the analyzed levels of all impurities from 100%. Analysis of impurity levels is carried out by the most appropriate technique, which may include spectroscopy, atomic absorption, and photometry. 

The method of the analysis of the CS described in the international standai d ASTM (D 820 - 93) is a long time, multi-stage procedure. Accuracy of AIST determination is low, since surfactants determined by an indirect method of subtraction. Thus, the objective of our research was to develop an exact and express method of AIST determination in CS. 

Most EDS systems are controlled by minicomputers or microcomputers and are easy to use for the basic operations of spectrum collection and peak identification, even for the computer illiterate. However, the use of advanced analysis techniques, including deconvolution of overlapped peaks, background subtraction, and quantitative analysis will require some extra training, which usually is provided at installation or available at special schools. 

Calculate the annual operating costs for the existing process that needs waste treatment, and estimate how these costs would be altered by the introduction of waste-reduction options. Tabulate and compare the process and waste-treatment operating costs for both the existing and proposed waste-management options. If there are any monetary benefits (such as recycled or reused materials or wastes), then these should be subtracted from the total process or waste-treatment costs as appropriate. The expanded cost-analysis scheme discussed in Chapter 8 is appropriate to include at this point in the process.
