One of the other benefits of incorporating polar monomers in the PSA is the enhancement in cohesive strength. This can be observed in the form of higher shear holding in a static shear test and/or better creep resistance of the adhesive when subject to a constant load. 

Pure PDMS networks are mechanically weak and do not satisfy the adhesive and cohesive requirements needed for most applications in which the silicone adhesive joint is subjected to various stresses. For crosslinked silicones to become high performing adhesives, they need to be strengthened.

Because the instability of the N-oxide metabolite, which was subjected to decomposition during sample preparation (solvent evaporation during offline SPE), online SPE LC/MS became the method of choice for the application. Hsieh et al. (2004) built a system with two TFC cartridges and one analytical column, and another system with two TFC cartridges and two analytical columns for GLP quantitative bioanalysis of drug candidates. A Turbo C18 (50 x 1.0 mm, 5 /.mi, Cohesive Technologies), an Xterra MS C18 (30 x 2.0 mm, 2.5 /mi), and a guard column were used. Protein precipitation preceded injection. The cycle times for the two systems were 0.8 and 0.4 min. 

The stability of the concrete mix can be considered in terms of its cohesion , which is a subjective term used to describe its ability to maintain a homogeneous appearance when subjected to applied stress. Lack of cohesion leads to segregation of the mix components into layers relevant to their densities. A further term associated with mix stability is that of bleeding , which is the movement of water to the surface of the fresh concrete. This phenomenon can occur either in isolation or as a manifestation of segregation. Bleeding in excess is normally considered to be undesirable because of the dangers of water runs at the shutter/concrete interface and cracking due to plastic settlements, and there is also the possibility of adverse effect on the concrete-reinforcement bond due to the collection of water beneath the steel. 

If the concept of spin polarons as described here is correct, the most important theoretical problem at the present time is to describe the way in which they are bound together to form bosons, of dimensions about 20 A and with binding energy of the order of the Neel temperature. Any binding mechanism will certainly distort the surrounding lattice, so the cohesion may well involve dielectric or dynamic Jahn-Teller terms, subject of course to the presence of only a very small (or zero) isotope effect. 

Mono- and polycrystalline natural and synthetic materials are not subject to plastic strain and have no independent slip system. Stress concentration occurs in them at.crack tips and at flaws in the material, affecting the maximum strength which originates from the chemical or physical cohesion forces present. Non-plastic materials (crystals, rocks, ceramics, glass) show brittle cracks—forming at very low plastic strain—usually originating from surface flaws. 

Pruritus of the elderly is another common dermatosis associated with itch.5 One study has shown that elderly patients with generalized pruritus had a higher degree of skin dryness than in age matched control subjects.6 This study also demonstrated that skin surface conductance, a marker of stratum corneum water content, was decreased in elderly patients with generalized pruritus. The study was also successful in demonstrating an acquired abnormality in keratinization in these patients. This abnormality manifested with increased intracorneal cohesion compared with the controls. Another study showed an increase in histamine release and hypersensitivity in patients with senile pruritus.7 Paradoxically, oral anti-histamines are not very efficacious in the treatment of senile pruritus. 

Individuals with sensitive skin often have associated dry skin. In a recent study of subjects with sensitive hands, no difference in skin hydration was seen macroscopically between normal subjects and sensitive hand subjects (who had self-perceived dry skin).
