EthylceUulose is subject to oxidative degradation in the presence of sun- or ultraviolet light, especially at elevated temperatures above the softening point. It must, therefore, be stabilised with antioxidants (44). EC is stable to concentrated alkah and brines but is sensitive to acids. [Pg.278]

Many materials are subject to deterioration by ultraviolet light (UV). particularly many of the plastics and fiberglass materials. In UV fluorescence photography, the fluorescence of a substance excited by UV illumination is captured. The source of ultraviolet radiation filtered with an ultraviolet transmission filter, or excitation filter, is aimed at the subject in a completely darkened room. Perhaps the most exacting TLC studies were carried out by Simon et al43. phenytoin was extracted frcm plasma, concentrated by evaporation, and subjected to TLC on silica gel plates. After the phenytoin spot was scraped off, the colorimetric procedure of Dill et al4 was applied directly to the scrapings.
