Averaging and storage of data for a Monte Carlo run are carried out in much the same way as for molecular dynamics (see p. 318-324). 

The CD-I (compact disk-interactive) is a low cost alternative to the CD-ROM for the entertainment industry. CD-I is a subset of the CD-ROM standard data format. It allows the digital storage of data, audio, and video information in a form that permits rapid interaction with a computer. CD-I is compatible to CD-ROM and to CD-AD 0 = 120 mm. Over the years, many instruments have been developed for and used in the scientific laboratory. Today, the computer is used as a major tool in the scientific laboratory for the capture, manipulation, transfer, and storage of data. Consequently, the concern for data quality has shifted from the instruments that are used in the generation of the data to these electronic systems, often neglecting the fact that the data are only as accurate as the instrument measurements. STL are accredited by the Department of Trade and Industry via the National Measurement Accreditation Scheme (NAMAS). This covers all aspects of laboratory operations, such as organization of the laboratory and methodology, equipment and staff training, quahty-control systems and storage of data. The company acquired the first accreditation in the UK for the analysis of organic compounds by GC-MS. These instruments are high precision, with state-of-the-art force and position measurement technology. Modem computer power enables the storage of data obtained during the test as well as its mathematical manipulation and presentation. Interpretative skills are required to obtain the best results from the techniques used. Comparison to results obtained in the field should always be made. 

A large part of XSLT processing power lies in its usage of powerful tools for searching and selection of information from XML documents. These tools makes XML a very useful instrument for persistent storage of data. 

The use of microprocessors for the control of the chromatograph components as well as for the acquisition and archival storage of data will be required for complex multicomponent analyses as well as to handle large numbers of samples and the large volumes of data generated. 

Our investigator noted that the laboratory is nsing an electronic record system for processing and storage of data from the XXXX and HPLC instmments that is not set up to control the secnrity and data integrity in that the system is not password controlled, there is no systematic backnp provision, and there is no audit trail of the system capabilities.
