Stimulants formulations

Initial response to short-acting stimulant formulations (e.g., methylphenidate and dextroamphetamine) is seen within 30 minutes and can last for 4 to 6 hours.13,14 This short duration of effect frequently requires that short-acting stimulant formulations be dosed at least twice daily, thus increasing the chance of missed doses and non-compliance. Further, patients using any stimulant formulation but especially shortacting formulations can experience a rebound effect of ADHD symptoms as the stimulant wears off.14... [Pg.637]

Atomoxetine is the most recent addition to the ADHD armamentarium in both children and adults. In clinical studies, atomoxetine has demonstrated superior efficacy over placebo and equivalent efficacy when compared with a suboptimal immediate-release methylphenidate dose.17 20 However, it is not clear whether atomoxetine is superior to typical methylphenidate doses or other stimulant formulations. Atomoxetine may be used as a second- or third-line medication for ADHD. [Pg.637]

If the patient is not responding to therapy after an adequate trial, assess compliance with the prescribed regimen. If the patient is not compliant, counsel the patient and caregivers and explore reasons for non-compliance. In some cases, switching to another stimulant formulation may improve compliance. [Pg.642]

Winstein, one of the most brilliant chemists of his time, concluded that it is attractive to account for these results by way of the bridged (non-classical) formulation for the norbornyl cation involving accelerated rate of formation from the exo precursor [by anchimeric assistance His formulation of the norbornyl cation as a cr-bridged species stimulated other workers in the solvolysis field to interpret results in a variety of systems in similar terms of rr-delocalized, bridged carbonium... [Pg.138]

The field of steroid analysis includes identification of steroids in biological samples, analysis of pharmaceutical formulations, and elucidation of steroid stmctures. Many different analytical methods, such as ultraviolet (uv) spectroscopy, infrared (ir) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) spectroscopy, x-ray crystallography, and mass spectroscopy, are used for steroid analysis. The constant development of these analytical techniques has stimulated the advancement of steroid analysis. [Pg.448]

Next, the German Adolph Eick (1829-1901), stimulated by Graham s researches, sought to turn diffusion into a properly quantitative concept and formulated the law named after him, relating the rate of diflfusion to the steepness of the concentration gradient (Eick 1855), and confirmed his law by measurements of diflfusion in liquids. In a critical examination of the influence of this celebrated piece of theory, Tyrrell... [Pg.166]

The search for additional LSDAs over the past 10 years has been extensive and the results are both stimulating and rewarding. New formulations, containing a variety of LSDAs, such as amphoteric sulfobetaines, polymers, and even nonionics, have been introduced. Thus, the older theories on the mechanism of lime soap dispersion require modification and supplementation by newer ones. This line of investigation becomes more significant as some of the LSDAs of this report become commercialized [38]. [Pg.643]

One-electron pictures of molecular electronic structure continue to inform interpretations of structure and spectra. These models are the successors of qualitative valence theories that attempt to impose patterns on chemical data and to stimulate experimental tests of predictions. Therefore, in formulating a one-electron theory of chemical bonding, it is desirable to retain the following conceptual advantages. [Pg.34]

We have not had the chance to discuss some works on difference methods of an applied character, although such works best illustrate the real possibilities of difference methods and provide constant sources of stimulation for the formulation of new problems. [Pg.783]

Catalytic reactions (as well as the related class of chain reactions described below) are coupled reactions, and their kinetic description requires methods to solve the associated set of differential equations that describe the constituent steps. This stimulated Chapman in 1913 to formulate the steady state approximation which, as we will see, plays a central role in solving kinetic schemes. [Pg.23]

Fat-soluble vitamin supplementation is usually required in pancreatic insufficiency. Specially-formulated products for CF patients (ADEKs and Vitamax ) are usually sufficient to attain normal serum vitamin levels at a dose of 1 tablet daily for younger children and 2 tablets daily for teenagers and adults. Additional supplementation may be needed in uncontrolled malabsorption or for replacement of severe vitamin deficiency.5,15 Appetite stimulants such as cyproheptadine may be an option for promoting nutrition and weight gain, but efficacy has not been established. [Pg.253]

Neutropenia associated with interferon or pegylated interferon therapy is defined as an absolute neutrophil count (ANC) of less than 1000 cells/mm3 in rare cases, an ANC less than 500 cells/mm3 maybe observed. The neutropenia is more common and in some cases more severe with pegylated interferon than with unmodified interferon. Neutropenia usually occurs within the first 2 weeks after initiating either formulation of interferon, with the WBC count stabilizing by week four or six. The neutropenia is reversible upon discontinuing therapy. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor has been used as an adjunctive therapy for interferon-induced neutropenia in hepatitis patients.44... [Pg.356]

Retinoids, which are highly effective in the treatment of acne, stimulate epithelial cell turnover and aid in unclogging blocked pores. Retinoids also exhibit anti-inflammatory properties through the inhibition of neutrophil and monocyte chemotaxis.8 Because of these comedolytic and antiinflammatory effects, topical retinoids are recommended as first-line treatment for mild to moderate comedonal and inflammatory acne.3 While success is seen with monotherapy, using a retinoid in combination with benzoyl peroxide or topical antibacterials is also an appropriate and effective therapeutic treatment option.3 Tretinoin, adapalene, and tazarotene are topical retinoids available for use in the treatment of acne. Table 62-2 describes the strengths and formulations of these agents. [Pg.963]

These results show that the covalently crosslinked Adjuvax formulations were superior to the physically entrapped Adjuvax formulations. In addition, the Adjuvax crosslinked formulations were as effective in stimulating antibody titers as Freund s Adjuvant. Furthermore, animals immunized with Adjuvax did not experience local inflammatory reactions or granuloma formation which was observed with all CFA/IFA immunized animals. [Pg.57]

Relative antibody titers between adjuvant groups at day 27 were determined by measuring the absorbance at 450 nm of a 1 500 dilution of anti-P55 immune sera by ELISA. Figure 4.
