Stevenson Report

As an alternative for the PMF strategy, Stevenson reported the synthesis and use of a pyridazin-3(2FZ)-one with two different halogen atoms namely, 5-chloro-4-iodo-2-methylpyridazin-3(2FZ)-one (4) [15]. While disubstitution could not be completely suppressed, in all cases tested using this substrate only one monoarylated product (129) is obtained. This illustrates the greater reactivity of the C—I bond in the oxidative addition reaction of the catalytic cycle. 

The myelin phenomenon started to appear in old articles published on solubility and detergency of soap solutions. Stevenson reported myelinic like structures during the removal of oil from clothes fibers (32). A few years later Marker also referred to myelin instabilities in similar experiments (33). In the late 1950s Lawrence reported qualitatively that myelins with different structures were dependent on the surfactant and composition (34, 35).

Stevenson [16] reported that silver was unstable, developed large amounts of porosity, when exposed to a dual atmosphere of H2—3% H20 on one side and air on the other for 100 h at 700°C. He found silver was stable when exposed to air or an air environment for 100 h at 700°C in an identical configuration. 

In addition, the FASEB report stated that a small percentage of individuals with severe, poorly controlled asthma may be prone to MSG symptom complex and suffer temporary bronchospasm or other symptoms for 6-12 hours after consuming MSG in doses of 0.5-2.5 grams. However, Woessner et al. (1999) found no evidence that MSG could induce asthma attacks in asthmatic subjects and advised maintaining a healthy skepticism about the existence of MSG sensitivity in asthma patients. In a similar vein, Stevenson (2000) criticized previous studies which suggested that MSG could induce asthma, pointing out that asthmatic patients who were challenged with MSG failed to experience symptoms.

The data of Table I are derived from early time radiochemical data reported by Stevenson (5). The linearity of the radionuclide ratios was first pointed out in that report. The aerial filter samples were taken at successively later times, 1 and 2, below the reported cloud base, and 3, 4, and 5 in the cloud. The tabulated values of rA correspond to atom ratio of isotope A to an arbitrary refractory isotope normalized by dividing by the atom ratio in which the two species were formed. Refractory species include the isotopes of the rare earths Eu and Tb as well as 45Ca, 89Zr, Sc, and others produced by neutron reactions on stable isotopes. The first values of covalent radii, as given in Table 7-2, were formulated before experimental values were available for F—F, O—O, and N—N single bonds. An electron-diffraction study of F2 by Brockway9 then gave the F—F distance as 1.45 A (a value substantiated by Rogers, Schomaker, and Stevenson, Table 7-3, who found 1.435 0.010 A), whereas the accepted radius of fluorine would require 1.28 A.
