Steel erection

There is a small contractor who also owns a construction equipment rental business and specializes in equipment and structural steel erection. He is highly regarded by the plant and has a permanent crew of 25-30 riggers, iron workers, and millwrights. [Pg.369]

There are three mid-sized mechanical contractors, qualified to do industrial piping and equipment erection, with demonstrated capability of handling projects requiring more than seventy workers. Two of them also have piping fabrication shops and asked to be considered for the prefabricated piping purchase. All of them asked to bid for the structural steel erection. [Pg.369]

It is always a good practice to also use the labor survey to investigate, with both contractors and users, the current unit prices of the most important construction components, i.e., cubic yards of concrete, tons of structural steel (erection), craftsman hours (loaded), etc. [Pg.371]

As mentioned in Section H.l the activity breakdown for this example is based on the preliminary estimate in Appendix L that was prepared without the benefit of P ID s and arrangement drawings. This breakdown would be barely adequate for tracking the civil work - site, concrete, and steel erection. However, it is not detailed enough for use for tracking electromechanical work - equipment erection, piping, electrical, and instrumentation. [Pg.396]

A case in point is illustrated in Fig. H.l. The construction work started on schedule on week 39 and proceeded right on track for several weeks. On week 48, although the overall progress was right on track, a closer inspeetion revealed a serious variation in the steel ereetion contract. This variation could have had disastrous repercussions since steel erection falls on the critical path and the delay would affect equipment and piping erection and jeopardize the project completion date. [Pg.409]

Typically, the cost of supporting structural steel, erection, interconnecting piping, and electrical interconnections would be from 40-100% of the cost of the equipment itself. Costs vary so much from one application to another and from one location to another that checking for each specific application is required. [Pg.139]

The piles, pile caps, and plinths are built, steel erected, and equipment erected. [Pg.289]

Who Steel erection employees exposed to fall hazards and those engaged in multiple lift rigging, connector, and Controlled Decking Zone procedures. [Pg.34]

Note Fall protection requirements for scaffolds (including aerial lifts), cranes and derricks, steel erection, tunneling operations, electric transmission and distribution fines and equipment work, and stairways and ladders are found in otfier subparts in the construction regulations. [Pg.295]

During steel erection work the fall protection threshold is 15 feet. Two exceptions are ... [Pg.319]

These citations cover general fall protection. They do not cover falls from scaffolds, aerial lifts, steel erection, etc. Those areas have their own fall protection rules. [Pg.331]

Two laborers and a forklift driver were staking 40-foot-long I-beams in preparation for structural steel erection. One laborer was placing a 2 X 4 inch wooden spacer on the last I-beam on the stack. The forklift driver drove up to the stack with another I-beam that was not secured or blocked on the forklift tines. The I-beam fell from the tines, pining the laborer between the fallen I beam and the stack of beams. [Pg.517]

This toolbox talk covers the structural steel assembly requirements in OSHA s steel erection standard. [Pg.883]

You should maintain structural stability at all times during the erection process to prevent collapse due to lack of stability, a major cause of fatalities in the steel erection industry. [Pg.883]

Include your company s steel erection rules in the training. [Pg.884]

The main safety requirement in steel erection assembly is to maintain structrmal stabihty at all times. This is necessary to prevent collapse of the building and the associated injuries and deaths. [Pg.885]

Remember, the steel erection nile does not cover electrical transmission towers, communication and broadcast towers, or tanks. [Pg.885]
