Working in the chemical industry is safer than most individuals realize. We shall provide a perspective of the risks of working within this industry by comparing that risk with actual statistical dangers encountered with other well-understood occupations, commonplace activities, and life-styles. It will explain what needs to go into the box and it will explain what comes out the other end, but you can remain as ignorant about what goes on inside the box as you are about how your power steering works. The good news, after all those dreadful statistics that I hated to report but felt I had to give you, is that diabetes in general and hypertension in particular can be controlled, and complications and risks can be greatly reduced.
