The third approaeh to synthetic polymers is of somewhat less commereial importance. There is in fact no universally accepted deseription for the route but the terms rearrangement polymerisation and polyaddition are commonly used. In many respects this process is intermediate between addition and condensation polymerisations. As with the former teehnique there is no moleeule split out but the kinetics are akin to the latter. A typical example is the preparation of polyurethanes by interaction of diols (di-alcohols, glycols) with di-isocyanates Figure 2.7). [Pg.22]

The theory of electrolytic dissociation was not immediately recognized universally, despite the fact that it could qualitatively and quantitatively explain certain fundamental properties of electrolyte solutions. For many scientists the reasons for spontaneous dissociation of stable compounds were obscure. Thus, an energy of about 770kJ/mol is required to break up the bonds in the lattice of NaCl, and about 430kJ/mol is required to split H l bonds during the formation of hydrochloric acid solution. Verification is the complement of calibration model predictions are compared to field observations that were not used in calibration or fidelity testing. This is usually the second half of split-sample testing procedures, where the universe of data is divided (either in space or time), with a portion of the data used for calibration/fidelity check and the remainder used for verification. In essence, verification is an independent test of how well the model (with its calibrated parameters) is representing the important processes occurring in the natural system. Esr spectroscopy has been used extensively in connection with the problem of radical stabilization. Two properties of the radicals are analysed to obtain information on their stability spin-density distribution and lifetime.
