Spectral substitution method

The similarity of the ultraviolet spectrum of 4,5-diphenyloxazol-2-one (91) with those of both alternative methyl derivatives preclude application of the spectral comparison method to the elucidation of their structures, but the fluorescence spectra of these compounds indicate that 91 exists in the oxo form. ° Infrared data for a number of substituted oxazol-2-ones support this conclusion. ... [Pg.48]

In order to Investigate the aromatic residues In detail It Is necessary to resort to Isotopic substitution methods to provide the required spectral simplification. For this reason we have studied enzymes containing selectively deuterlated aromatic residues and also containing 9f-labelled amino acids. The deuterlatlon approach was pioneered some years ago by Jardetzky (13) and Katz (14) and their colleagues. More recently Sykes et al. (15) and other workers (11, 12, 16, 17, 18) have Incorporated fluorine labelled amino acids Into proteins and examined their NMR spectra. [Pg.298]

Fast Fourier Transformation is widely used in many fields of science, among them chemoractrics. The Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) algorithm transforms the data from the "wavelength" domain into the "frequency" domain. The method is almost compulsorily used in spectral analysis, e, g., when near-infrared spectroscopy data arc employed as independent variables. Next, the spectral model is built between the responses and the Fourier coefficients of the transformation, which substitute the original Y-matrix. [Pg.216]

Patents of Dow Chemicals first described 9,9-diaryl-substituted PF homopolymers 204 and 205 by Yamamoto polymerization of the corresponding 2,7-dibromo monomers [272], although the methods for monomer preparation were not described. For unsubstituted fluorenone, a convenient method for its conversion into 9,9-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-[307-309] and 9,9-(4-alkoxyphenyl)fluorenes [310] was reported previously, which included condensation of fluorenone with phenol or its ethers in acidic conditions (dry HC1 [308,309] or H2SO4 [307,311]) in the presence of (3-mcrcaptopropionic or mercaptoacetic acids. Both polymers 204 and 205 showed similar Mn 21,000 with PDI of 1.48 and 1.75, respectively, and spectral data typical for PF (205 Aabs = 389 (r 50,000 //(mol cm) APL = 417, 439, and 473 mn (THF)) (Chart 2.48). [Pg.129]

In 2-substituted adamantanes 25 both types of 8-positioned carbon atoms (8syn and 8 ) exist within one molecule (Scheme 37). Early measurements with limited spectral resolution (176) did not differentiate between their signals. Later (124,244), differences of up to 0.7 ppm were detected, and application of various independent methods, including addition of lanthanide shift reagents (245), determination of longitudinal relaxation times T, (246), and evaluation of deuterium... [Pg.262]

More recently, an environmentally benign method using air as oxidant has been developed for the oxidative cyclization of arylamine-substituted tricarbonyl-iron-cyclohexadiene complexes to carbazoles (Scheme 19). Reaction of methyl 4-aminosalicylate 45 with the complex salt 6a affords the iron complex 46, which on oxidation in acidic medium by air provides the tricarbonyliron-complexed 4a,9a-dihydrocarbazole 47. Aromatization with concomitant demetalation by treatment of the crude product with p-chloranil leads to mukonidine 48 [88]. The spectral data of this compound are in agreement with those reported by Wu[22j. [Pg.130]

Another classical reaction which has been reinvestigated by the batch method (with quick HPLC separation of samples withdrawn at various times) is the acid-catalyzed substitution of Co(CN)5N - by SCN. The products are Co(CN)5H202-, Co(CN)5SCN5- and Co(CN)5NCS . The kinetics of these reactions are difficult to disentangle by in situ spectral examination alone, and indeed this procedure has led to erroneous conclusions. Care must be observed that the separation procedure used in the batch method does not alter the conditions of the system. ... [Pg.176]

The various tautomers and rotamers of alloxan have been examined in detail by the MNDO method and it is predicted that the keto form is most important in the gas phase, although in solution the monohydroxy forms are also thought to contribute. A mass spectral study has been used to investigate the enol-keto tautomeric equilibria of a series of substituted salicylaldehyde and 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde Schiff bases. In neutral, ethanolic solutions, the cis- and trans-tm forms of 4,5-dimethyl-2-(2 -hydroxyphenyl)imidazoles (393) and (394) have been found to exist in equilibrium in the ground state. However, in neutral aqueous solutions, the trans-eao and keto forms (394) and (395) were the only species detected. Deuterium isotope effects on... [Pg.599]

This is an additive constitutive property that is easy to determine experimentally and has theoretical significance, but it has been superceded by spectral methods that offer a deeper insight into the molecular structure. Nevertheless, it has historical value in the early elucidation of the structure of secondary ozonides as substituted 1,2,4-trioxolanes . ... [Pg.731]

Many chromophores are suitable for use in the exciton chirality method. One of the features required for such a chromophore is its planarity or near-planarity. Nonplanar (inherently dissymmetric) chromophores would contribute to the CD spectra by other mechanisms. The other limiting factor is the position of the transition in the spectral region studied. For example, the 1B transition in the alkyl-substituted benzene chromophore appears near the short-wavelength recording limit around 200 nm, making its use in the exciton chirality method less attractive. Furthermore, the direction of polarization of the lB transition in alkyl-substituted benzene derivatives is not readily determined. In such cases calculation of the rotatory strength is more reliable than qualitative analysis. [Pg.515]
