Some practical considerations

Solvent extraction is generally employed in analysis to separate a solute (or solutes) of interest from substances which interfere in the ultimate quantitative analysis of the material sometimes the interfering solutes are extracted selectively. Solvent extraction is also used to concentrate a species which in aqueous solution is too dilute to be analysed. [Pg.172]

The choice of solvent for extraction is governed by the following considerations. [Pg.172]

A high distribution ratio for the solute and a low distribution ratio for undesirable impurities. [Pg.173]

Another feature that needs to be considered is the fact that the NMR experiment is a static experiment and hence no consecutive bond making and bond breaking will take place as in a flow situation. Therefore, is it important to have a correct selector-to-analyte ratio (S/A value) during the NMR measurements. Both the choice of solvent and the S/A ratio will affect the amount of complexed analyte, due to the equilibrium situation between the sorbent and the analyte. Therefore, care must be taken that there is no unwanted signal overlap of the analyte and selector signals.
