Socialization processes aspects

Scientific research is an important social process. As such, it is based on social contracts as guidelines, and perhaps the most important of these is ethical behavior. Progress in science is based on mutual trust and to achieve this, honesty is a cracial aspect of all scientific activity. [Pg.719]

We propose that there are multi-layered processing mechanisms. The top layer for processing holds consciously accessible information. The bottom layers can not be assessed directly and controlled. On the top layer communication is actually an accessible information exchange about the real world with its social and ecological aspects. We can tell each other what we think about each other or gossip about others (Dunbar, 1993), we can create and use non-verbal signals like gestures (Morris et al., 1979) differently in different cultures and we are able to lie and detect lies. [Pg.116]

Technical advantage/function What technical (social or aesthetic) function is to be achieved (advantage of examined substanee, preparation or proeess) Summary of existing devised (as far as these are known) and diffused socio-technical options, which perform the desired funetion. Deseription of how the hazardous substance performs this function and what other aspeets play a role in its application (e.g. process integration, disposal). Brief list of options to perform this function that are generally available from a teohnieal aspect. [Pg.63]

This chapter is concerned with the neurochemical basis of developmental disability which is considered here in two forms the globally delayed or halted development seen in mental retardation, and the more circumscribed pattern of disordered development of autism. A range of deficits of important key aspects of consciousness are apparent in both conditions. Of particular relevance to consciousness are the cognitive and behavioural impairments in attention, concentration, memory, information processing and social behaviour which are commonly present. Consideration of aberrant neurotransmitter activities in these developmental deficits may provide insights into the role of neurotransmitters in consciousness. [Pg.309]

Many applications of enzymes exist today in many, veiy different industries. In this chapter, first a short description is given of the various industries where enzymes are used as processing aids or processed into final products. Further in this chapter examples from the detergent, feed, textile and food industiy are worked out in detail, highlighting technical, commercial and social aspects to reckon with when developing and applying enzymes for these purposes. [Pg.62]
