This chapter will also develop and extend the analysis of tourists behaviours within the dynamics of social situations. The influence of cultural factors that shape social responses will also be considered. 

To be useful to those concerned with choices in the allocation of health and social care resources, the data for economic evaluations need to be timely, relevant, credible and accurate (Davies, 1998). As a minimum, the costs associated with the interventions should be estimated from activity data, which quantify resources used, and price or unit cost data. Often evidence from well-controlled prospective trials with high internal validity is required to establish whether differences in economic end points are directly attributable to the interventions. However, the economic evaluations of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors estimated costs from retrospective analysis of available datasets Qonsson et al, 1999b), analysis of published literature (e.g. Stewart et al, 1998) and expert opinion (e.g. O Brien et al, 1999 Neumann et al, 1999). This means that it is not clear whether differences in costs were due to the anticholinesterase inhibitors or to other factors such as availability of services in different areas, the living situation of the patient, or disease severity. 

These analyses lead us back to broader issues, such as the background conditions where research is conducted, and unavoidably leads us to social justice. Therefore, we should return to a societal analysis and consider the situation of the community involved and how its socioeconomic situation impacts on the research. 

In light of these developments, it is reasonable for investors analyzing the situation to determine that the Bhopal controversy will not go away on its own and indeed will always be a black mark on the company s record. Increased attention to Bhopal heightens the real potential that money managers who run portfolios that incorporate environmental and social analysis will screen out Dow stock. There is over 2.18... 

It will thus be impossible to reconcile the traditional view of chemistry, usually portrayed as a series of chemical changes represented as chemical equations, with a narrative view of the subject that would seek to portray the hves and achievements of individuals within the times and contexts of events. Even the textbook chemical equations would have to be represented as the culmination of many failed and partially successful efforts at analysis and synthesis. Yet the effort to move on from the traditional view would be worthwhile, for chemistry would then, more faithfully, be portrayed as a human endeavour set within temporal and social circumstances. This portrayal would, we argue, enable the subject to be seen as set within the general warp and weft of human creativity. We will show that the notions of situation, context, and narrative are currently often poorly represented in opportunities for chemical education (see also Chapter 5). To do this, and then to see what might be done to increase their contribution to future provision, we look at the various ways in which opportunities for informal chemical education is provided, starting with books. 

This explains why people, and the realities in which their shared understandings come together, can be so variable they use language in different ways in different situations to construct their worlds at different times and in different places (Gergen and Gergen 2003 Augoustinos et a/. 2006). It is through such analysis that specific aspects of our social environment, such as safety, can be unpacked and revealed within the construction site environment.
