Small operations

Positive-displacement meters are normally rated for a limited temperature range. Meters can be constmcted for high or low temperature use by adjusting the design clearance to allow for differences in the coefficient of thermal expansion of the parts. Owing to small operating clearances, filters are commonly installed before these meters to minimize seal wear and resulting loss of accuracy. [Pg.58]

Solvent Recovery The largest current industrial use of pei vapo-ration is the treatment of mixed organic process streams that have become contaminated with small (10 percent) quantities of water. Pei vaporation becomes vei y attractive when dehydrating streams down to less than 1 percent water. The advantages result from the small operating costs relative to distillation and adsorption. Also, distillation is often impossible, since azeotropes commonly form in multicomponent organic/water mixtures. [Pg.2194]

Small operations, although covered by the PSM rule, may use simplified methodologies and still meet the criteria. Businesses with similar processes and equipment may pool resources and prepare a generic checklist analysis used by all members to meet the PSM rule. [Pg.70]

The distribution disk located at the Butterworth-Heinemann website http //www.bh.com/ contains the following software for use on an IBM or IBM-clone personal computer operating in DOvS, Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. The programs are small, operate in the DOS mode with minimal system requirements. It is recommended that a directory (folder) be constructed on your hard drive and copy them to this directory. No guarantees are made use them if you find them useful. Thev are ... [Pg.451]

The downdraft tables used tor small-scale chemical work are only recommended for small operations that generate contaminants near the working surface. The items that are used should not cover too large an area of the exhaust. Covering the surface increases the velocity and subsequently also the... [Pg.875]

A range of lacquer and low-bake thermosetting materials is available and, since many refinishers are small operators with no oven facilities, all of these materials have to be capable of drying at room temperature. [Pg.627]

So one can say the designer should not carry all these responsibilities. True but if the responsibility is not delegated to one person, you allow for problems to develop. Perhaps a certain qualified manager (the designer s boss) should have the responsibility. For a small operation it is usually its owner who may or may not properly delegate specific responsibilities. [Pg.297]

The Eastman process breaks down the PET down into basic components that can be separated from dyes, additives and other impurities. At this stage the pilot plant is still a rather small operation that is designed primarily to produce data rather than the product (97). [Pg.17]

They began reduced crude cracking experimentation in a small 12,000 barrel per day (B/D) Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) operating unit at Louisville, Ky. The RCC process was born from these goals, concepts and a small operating unit. The development and attributes of this process have been described in a number of articles and patents (1-6). [Pg.309]

The impact of polyurethanes has been global but is mostly concentrated in the developed world. The availability of the raw materials and the equipment to manufacture and process the materials permits small operations to exist economically. High-quality foams and elastomers can be manufactured in small facilities without large capital expenditures. The worldwide consumption of polyurethanes has therefore increased steadily since the 1950s. Current consumption by region is shown in Figure 2.18. [Pg.50]

A great Improvement on this method in small operations, and which has also been adopted on tbe large scale, is the process suggested In ite details by Mornt. [Pg.935]

Although tributyltin and triphenyltin hydrides are excellent reagents for radical chemistry, they have the disadvantage that they are costly and of relatively high molecular weight. For small operations, in the laboratory, this is not serious. However, there is a major additional problem, particularly for industrial use, because of the toxicity of these tin compounds and because of the difficulty of removing tin dimers that are formed as by-products [13]. Similar comments apply to germanium hydrides, which are even more expensive [21]. [Pg.155]

The preparation of prepolymers and quasiprepolymers allows the production of polyurethane parts by component manufacturers without the large capital outlay required to produce materials from the basic raw materials. The production of any prepolymer requires a good understanding of the chemistry involved. The final quality of the polyurethane product is dependent on the initial control of the chemistry of the system and would be expensive for small operators to carry. [Pg.42]

As a rule, frequency converter cabinets have small operating devices with the aid of which operating conditions can be monitored and parameters altered. There are hundreds of adjustable parameters, 20 to 30 of which usually have to be altered per application. Bus systems are used to exchange reference and actual values with system control. [Pg.338]

It is thus evident that for processes in which resistance at the particle-fluid interface is the dominant rate-controlling step—when the value of hdp/ks or hDdp/Ds is small—operation near the single-particle region, that is, dilute-phase G/S contacting, is the preferred choice. [Pg.295]

Continuous screw presses are used (1) for extracting fats and oils in small operations where investment capital or supplies of raw materials are limited and installation of a solvent extraction plant is impractical (2) to partially defat high-oil content seeds for easier handling in subsequent solvent extraction or hard pressing and (3) for extraction of animal flesh and bones, fish, and fleshy-type oilseeds such as palm fruit, olives, and copra (dried coconut meat ), and oilseeds. These machines have been generically referred to as expellers, but the Expeller trademark belongs to Anderson International Corporation, Cleveland, OH, successor to the company founded by Valerius D. Anderson who patented the first continuous screw press in 1899. [Pg.1585]

The rapid development of solid-state electronic devices in the last two decades has had a profound effect on measurement capabilities in chemistry and other scientific fields. In this chapter we consider some of the physical aspects of the construction and function of electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, and transistors. The integration of these into small operational amplifier circuits is discussed, and various measurement applications are described. The use of these circuit elements in analog-to-digital converters and digital multimeters is emphasized in this chapter, but modern integrated circuits (ICs) have also greatly improved the capabilities of oscilloscopes, frequency counters, and other electronic instruments discussed in Chapter XIX. Finally, the use of potentiometers and bridge circuits, employed in a number of experiments in this text, is covered in the present chapter. [Pg.538]

A specific t)q)e of recirculating reactor is the commercial indoor-air treatment device. The device is characterized by a small operating volume (a few lifers af mosf), which is several orders of magnitude smaller than the reservoir (a room, vehicle, or aircraft, for example). The reactor itself can be eifher free standing or part of a larger system, usually an air-conditioning system, and is supposed to be able to take care of continuous emission of... [Pg.310]

When the point in a development program is reached at which the nature of the performance parameters and the agitation system geometry (at least with respect to impeller type) are fairly well established, it then becomes necessary to work out the relation between performance and the operating variables. For purposes of scale-up, it is desirable to know this relation in terms of dimensionless groups, equally applicable to large or small operations. The results of similar work that may have been published can be helpful here. [Pg.193]

North Korea has a nominal ethylene capacity of 60,000 t/y at a plant in Pyongyang. This very small operation could expand should oil be discovered in offshore blocks currently being explored by western companies including Australia s Beach Petroleum. [Pg.25]

Another noteworthy point brought out in Table XVII is that on an a crage the large gas atta< ks were not as effective, per pound of gas used, an the smaller attacks. This was due primarily to the fact that, in general, in the small operations the targets were more definitely defined, and also t he smaller the attack the better the execution could be controlled. [Pg.273]
