Recently, standard procedures have been set up within the Fuel Cell Systems Testing, Safety and Quality Assurance (FCTES ) project, which is a specific targeted research project co-financed by the European Commission within the Sixth Framework Program.

The financing of scientific research is fixed in five-year Framework Programs of the EU. These programs include selected priorily projects. Fifty percent of the cost of each project is covered by the EC, the other 50% by partners of the projects. The following are examples of projects from the current sixth Framework Program (Adamson, 2005) ... 

In the sixth framework program of the European Commission, one of the thematic main lines deals with road traffic safety. Several projects funded by the 6th 1ST Framework Program address this topic, but COOPERS 1] takes a specific position with unique ways and methods to attain a safety improvement through an intelligent network which exploits existing technologies for co-operative services. 

This study is part of the NanoGLOWA project (NMP3-CT-2007-026735), which has been financially supported by the EU Commission within the thematic priority NMP of the Sixth Framework Program. 

Low-cost material programs include the European Union s 54 million sixth framework research program on nanotechnologies and nanosciences, knowledge-based multifunctional materials, new production processes and devices. In partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), the 5-year project seeks to find catalysts less expensive than platinum, which is used widely in fuel cells. As an alternative to platinum, nickel, cobalt and copper alloys are a possible solution. 

The European Union has a common and coordinated research and development program called a Framework Program (FP). At the end of 2002, the fifth program ended and the sixth program started. In FP5 the Commission contributed about 144 million (euros) to fuel cell or hydrogen projects (see Fig. 11-1).
