A single rupture disk can be used as the only overpressure protection on a vessel or system (Figure 7-10). The disk must be stamped by the manufacturer with the guaranteed bursting pressure at a specific temperature. The disk must rupture within +5% of its stampied bursting pressure at its specified burst temperature of operation. The expected burst temperature may need to be determined by calculation or extrapolation to be consistent with the selected pressure.

Provided that the appropriate regulations allow this, a single rupture disc can be used on its own for system protection. Rupture discs can be used for both primary relief and as an additional secondary rdief in combination with another pressure rdief device... 

Inspection of f-d data. For a single-bond rupture, a single rupture event in the f-d curve is expected in the entire curve it should be located at an extension that matches with the spacer length. By choosing an appropriately low surface concentration of host and guest molecules, a probability for the observation of interaction of <5% should be attempted. 

In conclusion, the complexation behavior of ferrocene moieties in highly ordered SAMs of P-CD on Au(l 11) was investigated by dynamic single molecule force spectroscopy. Multiple pull-off events were observed for the interaction between ferrocene (immobilized in a mixed hydroxyl-ferrocene SAM on an AFM tip) and p-CD SAM on Au(l 11) in water. Addition of a guest (1,8-ANS) causes reversible blocking of the cavities. The adhesion between P-cyclodextrin and ferrocene moieties was found to be a multiple of 56 10 pN. The observed "quantum" of adhesion force can be identified as the value for a single rupture force of the ferrocene - p-CD complex. This force was found to be independent of the (un-)loading rate between 2.00 x 10 and 2.34 x 10 pN/s. 

There are usually several reactors hnked to a single catch tank. To ensure that rupture of a disk on one reac tor does not affect the others, each reactor is fitted with a double-rupture-disk assembly. The use of double rupture disks in this apphcation requires installation of a leak detection device in the space between the two disks, which... 

This is applicable to both LT and HT capacitors. But it is more important in HT banks, which are relatively much larger and are built of a number of single units eonnected in series-parallel. These may encounter much higher fault currents in the event of a severe internal fault, even in one unit and are thus rendered more vulnerable to such ruptures. This phenomenon is more applicable to units that are externally protected w here (he intensity of fault may be more severe, than internally protected units.

The rupture initially may affect only a single boiler tube (although many tubes will be weakened), and this tube typically shows limited bulging, but the formation of considerable oxide and scale. 

Although significant insight into the process of bond rupture has been gathered from the studies on the scission kinetics, it remains desirable at this stage to carry out further experimentation at a molecular level to get information on the chain conformation at the moment of fracture.
