Silver sulfadiazine cream

Silver sulfadiazine cream 1% is a soft, white, water-miscible cream containing the antimicrobial agent silver sulfadiazine in micronized form. Each gram of cream 1% contains 10 mg micronized silver sulfadiazine. The cream [Pg.235]

Sulfacetamide eyedrops continue to be used for treatment of superficial ocular infections. Sometimes silver-sulfadiazine cream is applied to burn surfaces to minimize or prevent bacterial growth, as well as preventing invasive infection. [Pg.1565]

From the topically applied silver sulfadiazine only sulfadiazine is absorbed to some extent (about 10%). The analysis of sulfadiazine in biological fluids can be based on the methods described by Stober and De Witte (12). Delaveau and Friedrich-Noue (33) employed the Bratton-Marshall reaction for the measurement of sulfadiazine levels in plasma, serum and urine after topical application of silver sulfadiazine cream. [Pg.570]

Peripheral neuropathy from long-term treatment of venous leg ulcers with silver sulfadiazine cream has been observed in one patient (13). [Pg.3142]

In a patient with end-stage renal disease, there was a marked increase in serum silver concentration during treatment with silver sulfadiazine cream 200 g/day for 2 weeks (29). The serum concentration of silver reached a maximum of 291 ng/ml and there was rapid deterioration of mental status. Silver sulfadiazine was withdrawn, but the patient died after 4 months. At autopsy, there were very high concentrations of silver in the brain tissues (617 and 824 ng/g in the cerebrum and cerebellum respectively). [Pg.3144]

Cox et al. (1973) describe a case of lethal necrotizing angiitis after sulfadi-methoxine therapy which took on the appearance of anaphylactoid purpura. Even after 2 years of local treatment with silver sulfadiazine cream, two patients developed leukopenia, which receded 1-2 days after stopping the cream (Chan et al. 1976 Fraser and Beanlien 1979). [Pg.524]

Skin contact Leather objects that become contaminated with ethylene oxide, such as shoes, belts, and watchbands, cannot be decontaminated and should be discarded. If they continue to be worn, skin bums or allergic rashes may result. Skin bums from exposure to aqueous solutions of ethylene oxide should receive copious irrigation with normal saline followed by the application of a topical antimicrobial agent, such as silver sulfadiazine cream, and a dressing. Signs of skin damage may not appear for up to 5 hours following skin exposure. [Pg.361]
