Silver halide photographic emulsions

The sodium salt of the phenylglycine derivative (33) was investigated as an absorption promoter for the rectal absorption of beta-lactam antibiotics and insulin [80JAP(K)31040 81CPB1998, 81CPB2012], (Naphthothiazol-2-ylidene)malonates (1661 and 1662) were applied in silver halide photographic emulsions as sensitizer dyes [82JAP(K)54936]. [Pg.337]

In order to circumvent this sensitivity limitation, the San Jose researchers sought to design resist materials that incorporate chemical amplification of the sort that characterizes the silver halide photographic emulsion system. In these systems a single photo event initiates a cascade of subsequent chemical reactions that ultimately result in the intended function. [Pg.144]

Although polyester film, introduced by Du Pont under the trade name Mylar in the 1960s, has been added to the traditional supports like paper and cellulose acetate, the principle of photographic film preparation has remained unchanged since daguerreotype was developed. The sensitive surface always contains a silver halide crystal emulsion with a gelatin binder. Despite all the efforts to replace them, silver salts remain the basis of these emulsions, and film manufacturers still require gelatin, which they consume at the rate of 20,000 tons a year. The suppliers are few, and they are carefully selected. The world leader in this area is Rousselot, now a subsidiary of Sanofi Elf Aquitaine, with four units in Europe and one in the United States. [Pg.35]

Silver halide microcrystals are wide band gap semiconductors which exhibit weak photoconductivity. Early experiments demonstrated that dyes that sensitized silver halide photographic action also sensitized silver halide photoconductivity [6c]. Since the observation of photoconductivity necessitates the movement of free charge within the crystals, dye sensitization processes must inject charge into the silver halide lattice in some way. Initial theories of sensitization were based on the semiconductor view of silver halides, especially as espoused by Gurney and Mott [10]. Current ideas are based on thorough studies of the absorption spectroscopy and luminescence of silver halide emulsions and of adsorbed, sensitizing dyes, and the oxidation-reduction properties of the dyes at silver/silver halide electrodes [11]. [Pg.204]

Cinematographe (Auguste and Louis Lumiere) The Lumiere brothers combined motion-picture camera, printer, and projector helps establish the movie business. Using a very fine-grained silver-halide gelatin emulsion, they cut photographic exposure time down to about one minute. [Pg.2048]

Photographers use this term to refer to the coated photographic layers while the term dispersion, as used in photographic technology, is applied to oil-in-water emulsions. Hamilton JF (1988) The silver halide photographic process. Adv Phys 37 359-441 (and references therein)... [Pg.400]

CH rCHCH NHCSNH. Colourless crystalline solid with a faint garlic-like odour m.p. 74 C. Manufactured by treating propenyl isothiocyanate with a solution of ammonia in alcohol. It has been given by injection in the treatment of conditions associated with the formation of excessive fibrous tissue. Toxic side reactions may occur. Propenyl thiourea is a chemical sensitizer for photographic silver halide emulsions. [Pg.330]

Sensitizers as well as desensitizers form a reversal oxidoreduction system with silver halides, according to both pH and pAg of the photographic emulsion. But besides the specific influence of the emulsion, the efficiency of a sensitizing dye depends on many other factors such as its adsorption, its spectral absorption, the energetic transfer yield, the dye aggregate to the silver halide, and finally on its desensitizing property in... [Pg.78]

In certain carbocyanines. used as photographic sensitizers in silver halide emulsions, selenazoline rings linked bv trimethine bridges are found (56, 72). [Pg.264]

Other detection modes in bright CL or BL reactions are multichannel detectors, which provide simultaneous detection of the dispersed radiation and produce a permanent image of a wide area. Photographic films or plates are emulsions that contain silver halide crystals in which incident photons produce stable clusters of silver atoms within the crystals. Internal amplification is provided in the development process by an electron donor that reduces the remaining silver ions to silver atoms within the exposed crystals. A complexing agent is used to remove the... [Pg.56]
