An inorganic photoconductor such as zinc oxide can be optically sensitized by treating it with a ligand that will form a colored zinc complex. The resulting material then responds to light of the wavelength where the complex absorbs. Suitable ligands are prepared by the condensation of heterocyclic hydrazines and heterocyclic aldehydes.235 Two examples of the more than 50 disclosed in the patent literature are (114) and (115). [Pg.123]

A cross-section of a detector element of a focal plane array is shown. The detector element includes a mercury cadmium telluride substrate 3 with a reflective metal layer S thereover which can be used as an interconnect. A portion of the reflective layer is removed over the optically sensitive portion of the substrate in the form of windows 7 so that the only energy reaching the substrate passes through the windows. [Pg.197]

When chlorine dioxide is obtained by anodic chlorite oxidation, with or without the addition of sulphate, it is relatively stable in the minute-to-hour time scale at room temperature in the dark. Complex formation probably stabilises the chlorine dioxide (Gordon and Emmenegger 1966). Unfortunately, observation of this complex under these conditions in water electrolysis is compromised by low optical sensitivity. [Pg.181]

In principle, the utility of TiOi can be improved enormously by optical sensitization towards visible light. This can be achieved by surface doping or dye sensitization and several reports have described dye sensitization of TiOi powders. In each case, the mechanism of sensitization appears to involve charge injection from the excited state of the dye into the conduction band of the semiconductor. Such methods permit Hi evolution to be observed from TiOi coated with 8-hydroxyquinoline using visible light. [Pg.548]
