Silver effects

To test the altered selectivity, this silver/nickel-modified surface was exposed to ethene at room temperature. When all the step edges were decorated with silver, STM showed no evidence of an ethene-induced brim structure, either at the step edges or at the terrace sites. This result clearly indicates that the step sites are indeed the active sites for the decomposition of ethene, and the experiments showed that addition of silver effectively blocks these sites and changes the overall selectivity of the stepped nickel(l 1 1) surface. 

Very fine aluminum pigments display a very grayish silver effect if they do not have a chance to orient themselves parallel to the surface, as is often the case in injection-molded parts. They are preferably applied in film and coextrusion processes because of their very high opacity, ability to orient, and reflectivity of light. 

Fig. 1 shows optical density spectra for the copper effective thickness of 1.36 lO g/cm silver effective thickness of 1.67-10 g/sm. The copper monolayer (curve 1) is characterized by the wide LSPA band with maximum at approximately 810 nm. Light attenuation of the copper sample at the spectral range X < 550-600 nm is connected with an interband absorption.
