Silica gels unit structure

Another series of pyrroles, structurally related to amino acids, was obtained in a microwave-assisted solvent-free condensation of a-amino acid methyl esters with chloroenones, which provided the four-carbon unit of the pyrrole. The reaction was carried out by mixing the reagents on silica gel and irradiating for 2-6 min inside a multimode microwave cavity (Scheme 7). Coupling of diffusion and rotation applies to benzene (29) and water (80, 31) on NaX as well as for pure water (ice) (1, 32). When solutions of sodium silicate are acidified, silica is precipitated as a gelatinous mass, which can then be extracted and dried. The resulting silica gel, as it is called, has no definite structure and is non-crystalline. The whole plants of A. lingalatus were collected from Li-Jiang county, Yunnan Province. The butanol-soluble fraction of a 70% ethanol extract was chromatographed over Diaion HP-20, silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and C8 reversed-phase silica gel to yield four new saponines 27-30, The structures of the saponins we isolated were determined by acidic and alkaline hydrolyses, esterification and various spectral analyses. When more than seven SiOa units form a large unit ring, the center hole is large enough to collect and keep a metal ion in it, but not large enough for total silanization of the inside, and the structure of polymerized silica may not be homogeneous. This means that the porous silica gel will be physically weak, and will not have an ideal surface for total silanization. [Pg.43]

The real structures of porous silica gels are unknown. However electron microscopic analysis revealed a smooth surface. Bonded silica gels made from pure silica are very chemically stable compared to ordinaiy silica gels. This means that the purer the silica, the more homogeneous the structure, which improves the physical strength and the reactivity of silanization. The basic structure may be based on rings of six Si02 units. [Pg.43]
