Shredder-cutting

Briquetting of biomass can be achieved by different techniques, and by either using some kind of binder or by direct compacting without any binder. One example from a pilot plant is presented below. Bales of raw material are put on a conveyor, transported to a shredder and stored in a silo. The shredder cuts the material into particles ranging from microscopic to 15 mm. When the production of briquettes starts, material from the silos is transported through a mixer and a... [Pg.145]

Cutting mills, like shredders, are able to chop material which is too soft for milling examples of such materials include plastic, paper or leather. Industrial applications can be found in the paper and pulp industry, or in the recycling sector. [Pg.415]

Newsprints were first cut to the size 12x3 mm by the use of a commercial shredder and then subjected to FS mill (Fibsonic mill) which was developed by Kobe steel Co., Ltd. and VMC Co., Ltd.. Going through this procedure, newsprints wastepapers were well defibrated to single fibers. In the pulp and paper industry, wastepapers are usually defibrated by the wet process. But, in this study the dry defibrating process was applied so as not to produce any polluted effluents. [Pg.187]

Rotational speeds are very low, in most cases ranging between 50 and 200 RPM. The low-speed hydraulic motors develop very high torques on the shafts, providing considerable shearing power to the cutting discs. This power makes shear shredders effective in difificult-to-cut materials. This equipment has been used to shred materials such as metals, truck and car tires, wood, pallets, bulky objects, and electrical and electronic devices, for example, in relatively coarse particle size. On the contrary, they are not capable of shredding materials into fine size (less than 10 mm). The main advantage of shear shredders is that... [Pg.316]

Knife Shredder. Knife shredders are machines used to cut materials into smaller pieces for subsequent separation or for volume reduction, and, consequently. [Pg.317]

These shredders are suggested for protecting your property from people who trespass Just for the bell of it, to steal or to attack you. Unlike nails, which may not take effect for several yards, or even a mile or so as the air leaks out, the shr ders cut through tires as if they were butter. The result is immediate and the quarry is demoralized and at your mercy. [Pg.92]

The CST treats nonprocess waste and dunnage to a 5X decontamination level. Shredded wood pallets, spent activated carbon from the HVAC beds, and shredded plastic from DPE suits are fed to the CST. Wood and DPE suit material are size-reduced by a process that has two four-shaft shredders, one for wood and one for DPE suit material. The shredder for wood has a cutting chamber 44 inches wide by 40 inches long. The shafts and cutters reverse upon amperage overload to minimize januning. A similar but smaller shredder is used to size-reduce DPE suit material. [Pg.81]

Models of shredders are offered with from one to six cutting shafts. Machines with a capacity of many tones per hour are available. They are able to reduce complete bales of film fed by forklift without any difficulty. Also, hollow items such as rubbish bins and barrels can be reduced when a ram is fitted to the feed. Another field of application is the shredding of cables to allow the separation of plastics and metal. Generally, a trough fed by a forklift or conveyor is located above the shredder shafts. After the material is reduced to a practical size in the shredder, it is transported to subsequent process stages by means of a conveyor or other mechanical device. [Pg.739]

The material is fed manually in a trough or on an open conveyor to the guillotine. The latter operates as opposed to the shredder, on a stroke principle. A cutter, usually hydraulically operated, is lowered from above to cut the material in slices of the desired thickness. The complete cutting process including the material feed is best operated a programmed control. [Pg.739]

A carpet separation process is illustrated in Fig. 13.1. First the carpet is sorted by face fiber. A near infrared sensor can identify the face fiber within a second even though nylon 6 and nylon 66 have similar infrared spectra. These two types of nylon carpet must be separated since they are incompatible. Next a guillotine is used to cut the carpet into small enough pieces to feed a shredder. After shredding some of the latex, calcium carbonate and dirt will separate from the carpet. To improve the purity of the carpet, fine grinding is necessary. Then a density separator can be used to remove more filler and dirt. Since there is a significant difference in the densities of nylon and polypropylene, a density separator can be used to separate nylon face fibers from polypropylene backing fabrics. Hydrocyclones can separate these polymers rapidly. Sink-float baths can accomplish this... [Pg.203]
