Sharpening cutters

The cellulose fibre is further crystallised in a hot water bath and collected as cable. While being drawn off to the cutting tower, it is stretched. The cable is sucked into the cable injector with cutting water (acidic water) and cut to the desired length with rotating, self-sharpening cutters. The cut fibre staples are then transferred with acidic water for an after-treatment. [Pg.178]

Slice offers the world s first box cutter with a hand-sharpened double-sided ceramic blade. It s equivalent to 20 high-end metal blades, the manufacturer says. Less blade changes result in reduced injuries and cost savings. Patent-pending, non-slip, easy-bold handle protects the user s hand while the housing limits the amount of exposed ceramic blade to further reduce injuries. Regular chain has a single tie strap separating each culler skip-tooth chain has two tie straps. I always use regular chain because a single tie strap gives better support to the cutters. While skip-tooth chain has fewer cutters to be modified and sharpened, I find it does not cut as smoothly or as efficiently. [Pg.18]

Now e.xamine the cutter to be sure it has been completely sharpened. The shiny, dull edge should be completely gone, leaving a sharp edge that will not reflect light. [Pg.28]

When hand-filing in the shop (and especially for initial chain modification), I prefer to hold the chain in a small machinist s vise, rather than to file while the chain is on the bar. (When sharpening in the field, when the chain is on the bar, I mount the bar in a holder made especially for field work.) With a square, draw a line 90° across the jaws of the vise, then mount your chain. Position the file guide flat on top of the first cutter, touching the depth gauge, and keep the guide parallel to the line (2. ... [Pg.32]

The bead wire in tires consists of many strands of high tensile strength steel to reinforce the tire sidewalls. Special equipment is available to cut the sidewalls off the tire and thus increase the life of cutter blades in the shredding equipment. However, the current procedure for removing the tire bead is very labor intensive and expensive. In most applications it is more economical to sharpen/replace cutter blades than to debead a tire. [Pg.240]

Passenger car tire rims are typically removed with the three-pronged hydraulic device that simultaneously crushes the rim allowing the tire to be lifted off. A similar, but more involved procedure is used with larger off-road and truck tires. These procedures are also very labor intensive and costs must be balanced against sharpening/replacing cutter blades. [Pg.240]
