Striker plate

Foams have limited use for these purposes. Rigid cellular PVC is good as a thermal barrier but aot for stmctural parts. Doors and frames of stmctural molded foam, eg, foamed high impact polystyrene, can be made by iajection mol ding, with recesses for hinges, striker plates, and miter corners. Sohd polystyrene and stmctural foam-molded polyurethane have been molded for door frames.

However, phosphate salts are not volatile. We must constantly remember that mass spectrometry is a gas-phase experiment. Materials to be examined by mass spectrometry must ultimately be made gaseous. Figure 19.14 shows the atmospheric pressure ionization source chamber of a mass spectrometer after infusion of a 20 mM potassium phosphate-containing mobile phase into the instrument for a few hours. The accumulation of phosphate salts on the striker plate is evident. Visual evidence of salt accumulation is also apparent on the back wall of the source chamber, above the striker plate. The overall haziness of the image is not the result of poor photography, but rather due to the coating of dust on the inner walls of the chamber and all surfaces within.

A variety of devices have been developed to mitigate this effect and to minimise the effect of asymmetry in the charging system. In the fixed plate and cone arrangement (Fig. 16.6), the position of the cone and striker plate, relative to the feed chute and to each other, can be adjusted to produce a more-or-less uniform profile around the kiln. Inevitably, fines tend to concentrate in the 60° segments on either side of the feed chute centre line, but the effect on kiln operation is small. The rotating hopper and bell system (Fig. 16.7) is more sophisticated and produces both a more uniform profile and a better dispersion of fines in an annular ring around the kiln.

EVST shielding above the sodium pool consists of 22 in. of steel including the closure head, plus 2 in. of borated polyethylene neutron shielding attached under the striker plate. This shielding will ensure that the radiation level above the striker plate will not exceed 0.2 mrem/hr under the design basis conditions.

Unlike injection blow molds, which are mounted onto a die set, extrusion blow molds are fitted with hardened-steel guide pins and bushings to ensure that the two mold halves are perfectly matched. Dies, mandrels, blow-pin cutting sleeves, and neck-ring striker plates are made from tool steel hardened to 56-58 HRC.

The method detailed in ASTM D.S420 [87] is somewhat unusual compared to other impact standards in that the test piece, which is placed on a support plate having a circular hole of given size, has a striker resting upon it. and the striker is then impacted by the falling weight.
