Unlike injection blow molds, which are mounted onto a die set, extrusion blow molds are fitted with hardened-steel guide pins and bushings to ensure that the two mold halves are perfectly matched. Rubber Sleeve Core Barrels. Rubber sleeve core barrels are special application tools designed to recover undisturbed core in soft, unconsolidated formations. As the core is cut, it is encased in the rubber sleeve that contains and supports it. Using face discharge ports in the bit, the contamination of the core by circulating fluid is reduced. The rubber sleeve core barrel has proven to be a very effective tool, in spite of the fact that the rubber sleeve becomes weak with a tendency to split as the temperature increases about 175°F. [Pg.794]

Natural single-crystal diamond and carbonado can now be replaced in many industrial uses by sintered diamond tool blanks. Such tool blanks are available in disks and cores. The disks, or sectors of disks, consist of a thin (0.5—1.5 mm) layer of sintered diamond up to about 50 mm diameter on a cemented tungsten carbide-base block about 3—6 mm thick. Using diamond abrasive, such blanks can be formed into cutting tools of various shapes. Typical tool blanks are shown in Figure 9. The wire dies have diamond cores up to 10 mm in diameter and 10 mm in length, which are encased in a cemented tungsten carbide sleeve up to 25 mm in diameter. [Pg.567]

Rubber policemen are simply rubber sleeves (obtained from Mac-Farlane Robson Ltd Appendix 3), which fit over the ends of glass rods and provide a Soft surface with which cells may be scraped from their substratum. Alternatives for use with dishes are wedges of silicone rubber cut from bungs and stuck on hypodermic needles (Fig. 4.1). These also have the advantage that they can be readily sterilised by autoclaving. A collapsible type of windscreen wiper (Fig. 4.1) is readily constructed for scraping cells from the inside of roller bottles. Scrapers can be obtained from Costar (Appendix 3). [Pg.63]
