Xhe 1987 WINTER SYMPOSIUM of the Division of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry, hosted by the Minnesota Supercomputer Institute, was supported by grants from the American Chemical Society, the Minnesota Supercomputer Institute, Cray Research, Inc., and ETA Systems, Inc. The symposium consisted of four half-day sessions with four lectures per session and a two-part poster session with 15 poster papers. This book includes chapters by the lecturers plus five papers contributed by the session chairs. All contributions were refereed anonymously according to usual procedures of the ACS Symposium Series. [Pg.1]

This volume appears with a short time lag because of the cooperation of the participants. Fifteen of the lecturers and both out-of-town session chairs brought their manuscripts to the symposium. We thank Robin Giroux of the ACS Books Department for her coordination of the publisher s tasks. [Pg.1]

As chairman 1 very much appreciate the dedication and hard work of the ORCS board members Bert Chandler, Baoshu Chen, Pierre Gallezot, Kathy Hayes, Steve Jacobson, Steve (Juimby, John Super, and Jim White and executive committee members Alan Allgeier, Steve Schmidt and Helene Shea. 1 also wish to thank the many individuals who contributed their time and efforts as presenters, members of the editorial board, peer reviewers, session chairs, AfW assistants and those who performed the multitnde of invisible activities that are required to organize and nm the conference. A special thanks goes to Dr. Tom Pnckette of Eastman Chemicals... [Pg.3]

This book has been organized into eight sections, each representing a specific field. Each section contains an introduction written by the respective session chairperson of the symposium from which this book was developed. All session chairs are recognized experts in their fields. We are indebted to many people and organizations for making the symposium... [Pg.3]

I would like to thank all the participants for all the contributions to the conference. 1 would like to take this opportunity to thank all the reviewers for their efforts to review papers within a very short period of time. Thanks should also go to the members of the organizing committee and secretary, the advisory and scientific committee and session chairs for their input and assistance. Also, special thanks goes to Professor J. Ritter (Univ. of South Carolina, USA) for the organization of the US side. And I would like to express my gratitude to Yeong-Joo Park, my wife, for all of her support and 1 thank my graduate students for all of their hard work to make this conference work. [Pg.656]

Besides the 19 full lectures and discussions, the session chairs were allowed to give short talks. More than 55 poster papers were presented at the two evening poster sessions. The original program is reproduced in Appendix 2. Again it is interesting to see the names and the work under way about 10 years ago. [Pg.407]

The National Science Foundation and the ACS are acknowledged for partial support of my time in the preparation of the overview chapter and the coordination of the book. It has been a sincere pleasure working with Cheryl Shanks and Beth Pratt-Dewey of the ACS on this project their good nature and efficiency were examples for me. Thanks are extended to the session chairs and participants in the symposium on which the book is based. Finally, I express my deepest gratitude to the authors whose work is presented in this volume and the many excellent reviewers who helped perfect the papers with their thoughtful comments. [Pg.411]

Finally I would like to thank all those that I have forgotten, as well as all the speakers, session chairs, and participants who made the workshop the tremendous success that it was. [Pg.2]

The papers presented at the symposium represented research from 20 countries and demonstrate the worldwide interest in the processing and properties of complex ceramic systems. The organization of the symposium and the publication of this proceeding were possible thanks to the professional staff of The American Ceramic Society and the tireless dedication of many Engineering Ceramics Division members. We would especially like to express our sincere thanks to the symposia organizers, session chairs, presenters and conference attendees, for their efforts and enthusiastic participation in the vibrant and cutting-edge symposium. [Pg.200]

The course ends with a final conference in which the groups present their work. The conference is organized in parallel sessions with faculty members acting as session chairs. The conference gives students practice in speaking in front of large audiences. [Pg.113]

Acknowledgments are due to several individuals who were involved in the origination and fulfillment of this project. Anna Balazs was coorganizer of this symposium, and Richie Davis, Jim Rathman, Fran oise Winnik, and Jiulin Xia were all capable and effective session chairs. Financial support was essential, given the strong participation of overseas scientists, and we are grateful for the assistance of the Petroleum Research Fund the ACS Divisions of Colloid and Surface Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry, Inc. Mobay Chemical Company Johnson s Wax Company and Aqualon, a Division of Hercules. [Pg.1]

The editors thank all of the authors who presented a paper or poster during the conference and to the authors who submitted a paper for this proceedings. A special thanks also goes out to all of the organizers and session chairs for their contribution and hard work before, during and after the meeting. [Pg.163]

The manuscripts included in this volume are reproduced as furnished by the presenting authors, but were reviewed prior to the presentation and submission by the respective session chairs. These chairs are also the members of the GPC Advisory Board. I appreciate all the assistance and support by the Board members. The American Ceramic Society and myself did minor editing of these papers. Neither Alfred University nor GMIC is responsible for the statements and opinions expressed in this volume. [Pg.281]

Meeting in Atlantic City (April 1962), Dave Kosow presented our results at a session chaired by Severe. In the discussion that followed Dave s paper, A1 Grossman from the NYU group indicated that they had confirmed our results. This really boosted our collective egos. [Pg.177]

Furthermore, in order to stimulate discussions and favourize the exchange of novel ideas and concepts related to various areas of chemical engineering, the participants were invited to contribute to the Conference during the Poster Presentation Session chaired by Professor J. Arandes, from the Universidad del Pals Vasco, Spain. Over 20 poster presentations were displayed at this session. [Pg.651]

Finally the editors would like to thank the authors, session chairs and conference participants without whom there would not have been any conference. [Pg.2488]
