Journal literature (magazines, periodicals, serials, and trade literature publications) all help researchers to keep abreast of trends, current issues, and techniques in the industry. Some prominent mining engineering journal titles, ranked high by their impact factor over the past three years in ISI s Journal Citation Reports are listed below. Scope notes for these Subject Categories have been quoted also, in full from the JCR Web site http //thomsonreuters.com/products services/science/ science products/a-z/journal citation reports/ (accessed March 27, 2011). [Pg.434]

Analytical chemistry can be viewed from two perspectives the insider sees the subject as a science in its own right, where applied physics, math, and chemistry join hands to make measurements happen in a reliable and representative way the outsider might see the service maid that without further effort yields accurate results that will bring glory to some higher project. [Pg.1]

T]here are already so many books extant on it, and several of them well written. I scarce saw room for me, either to do better, or to produce any thing new upon the subject. The duty of my professorship, indeed, required me to give annual lectures in chemistry but I had no farther aim in this, than to teach the first rudiments, and exhibit a few examples of the art, to those under my care. And to this end, the order wherein I digested matters, and the openness and simplicity wherewith I delivered them might perhaps be of service. In both these respects, indeed, my endeavours still seem d wanting to raise chemistry, at length, into a rank with the other academical sciences. [Pg.132]

The books provide statistical support for professionals and research workers across a range of employment fields and research environments. Subject areas covered include medicine and pharmaceutics industry, finance and commerce public services the earth and environmental sciences, and so on. [Pg.273]

It is gratifying to launch the third edition of our book. Its coming to life testifies about the task it has fulfilled in the service of the community of chemical research and learning. As we noted in the Prefaces to the first and second editions, our book surveys chemistry from the point of view of symmetry. We present many examples from chemistry as well as from other fields to emphasize the unifying nature of the symmetry concept. Our aim has been to provide aesthetic pleasure in addition to learning experience. In our first Preface we paid tribute to two books in particular from which we learned a great deal they have influenced significantly our approach to the subject matter of our book. They are Weyl s classic, Symmetry, and Shubnikov and Koptsik s Symmetry in Science and Art. [Pg.525]

The laws of chance have rendered, and will continue to render, immense services to science. It is inconceivable that we could do without them, but they only express an admirable, subjective interpretation of certain inorganic phenomena and of their evolution. They are not a true explanation of objective reality. [Pg.82]
