Service providers

The service provided by maintenance engineering was traditionally that of repairing equipment items when they failed. This is no longer the case, and a maintenance department is now pro-active rather than reactive in its approach. Maintenance of equipment items will be an important consideration in the FDP, because the mode and cost of maintaining equipment plays an important part in the facilities design and in the mode of operation. 

The main shortcomings of the pneumatic controller is its lack of flexibility when compared to modern electronic controller designs. Increased range of adjustability, choice of alternate control algorithms, the communication link to the control system, and other features and services provided by the electronic controller make it a superior choice in most of todays applications.

Purchasing may be critical to quality, cost efficiency and safety of the service provided. Therefore evidence should be given that there is a written management policy or directive establishing quality criteria. 

Toller An outsourced manufacturing company contracted to process materials to another company s specifications. Sometimes called third party service provider, toll processor, supplier of outside services, external contract manufacturer, contract processor, contract manufacturer, custom chemical manufacturer.

Seek the opinions of customers about your organization s products and services provided through questionnaires or interview checklists. 

The requirements of ISO 9001 do not apply solely to one department. As everyone in some way contributes to the quality of the products and services provided by the supplier, everyone shares the responsibility for the quality of these products and services. Every manager within an organization makes a unique contribution towards the organization s purpose and mission. The achievement of quality, however, is everyone s job but only in so far as each person is responsible for the quality of what they do. You cannot hold each person accountable for ensuring that the requirements of ISO 9001 are implemented and maintained, as the requirements apply to the organization as a whole and not to any specific individual. It is a trait of human nature that there has to be a leader for an organization to meet an objective. It does not do it by itself or by collective responsibility - someone has to lead hence the purpose of this requirement.

Force majeure is an event, circumstances, or an effect that cannot be reasonably anticipated or controlled - often called an act of God, which includes natural disasters caused by weather and land movement. Force majeure also includes war, riots, air crash, labor stoppage, illness, disruption in utility supply by service providers, etc. There is some contradiction in this requirement as you can take effective action to maintain business continuity as a result of certain events that may be classified as force majeure or natural disasters. 

People differ in their preferences and m the value they put on their time. For consumer choices in particular, the entire list of qualities of services provided by different energy sources can be important. For example, both kerosene lamps and electric lights can be used to illuminate a home. Most households shifted quickly to electricity once it became available, and few would shift to kerosene today even if kerosene for lamp fuel were free. The lighting provided differs in more ways than cost.

Preamble. Engineering is an important and learned profession. The members of the profession recognize that their work has a direct and vital impact on the quality of life for all people. Accordingly, the services provided by engineers require honesty, safety and welfare. In the practice of their profession, engineers must perform under a standard of professional behavior which requires adherence to the highest principles of ethical conduct on behalf of the public, clients, employers and the profession. 

In traditional organizations, the plant engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all plant services (i.e. electric and steam generation, water treatment, waste treatment, etc.). In locations where these services are provided by outside sources, the plant engineering function is responsible for the internal distribution of electricity, steam and other services and the supervision of the outside service provider. 

In any case, the plant engineer has a responsibility to keep careful account of all the costs incurred, which may be recoverable in whole or part under the policy, and submit appropriate invoices to the insurer. He also has an obligation to minimize these costs insofar as this is reasonably compatible with achieving his objective, which will be to restore normal production. The insurer may have access to sources of replacement plant items or to specialist repairers of whom the plant engineer is not aware, and advice on these matters is part of the service provided by the insurer. 

SC Service typical of petrol engines in 1964-1967 cars and trucks. Oils designed for this service provide control of high- and low-temperature deposits, wear, rust and corrosion. 

SF Service typical of petrol engines in cars and some trucks from 1980. Oils developed for this service provide better oxidation stability and anti-wear performance than SE oils. They also provide protection against engine deposits, rust and corrosion. Oils meeting SF may be used wherever SE, SD or SC is recommended. 

SG Service typical of petrol engines in present cars, vans and light trucks. Oils developed for this service provide improved control of engine deposits, oil oxidation and engine wear relative to oils developed for previous categories. Oils meeting SG may be used wherever SF, SE, SF/CC or SE/CC are recommended.
