Design, facility

It is obvious that the best designed facility is no better than the attention that is paid to safety. The latter is not considered once and forgotten. Rather, it is an ongoing activity that requires constant attention to every conceivable hazard that might be encountered. Because of its importance, safety, particularly at low temperatures, has received a large focus in the literature with its own safety manual prepared by NIST as well as by the British Cryogenics Council. 

Simplify Design facilities which eliminate unnecessary complexity and make operating errors less likely, and which are forgiving of errors which are made (also called Error Tolerance). 

Apart from performance criteria, an industrial building might also be required to project a corporate identity by a striking appearance. This generally requires a specifically designed facility. 

Premature failure can also occur as a result of lack of attention to design. Facilities should, therefore, be provided for ventilatory drainage of water (rain, condensation, etc.), and all structures should be designed so as to permit ready access for repainting. Due consideration by architects and structural engineers at the design stage can indeed help to obviate certain of the causes of paint failure mentioned in this section (see also Sections 9.3 and 11.5).

If the industrial plant s manager or consulting engineer does not receive a copy of the manifest from the receiving facility (i.e., the disposal facility and/or the recychng facihty) within 35 days of the date when the plant s waste was shipped, the transporter or the operator of the facility must be contacted to determine the stams of the waste. My first LSD experience was conducted at my home under the guidance of Francis Huxley and Dr. Duncan Blewett, a psychologist who had had considerable experience with LSD. As the intention was just to introduce me to the experience, no attempt was made to structure the situation to relate to the problem of designing facilities for the mentally ill. It was thought that I should "enjoy" the experience. My wife was also to participate, but she had some difficulty because she became nauseated quite quickly and vomited. As a result, her LSD experience was brief and slightly unpleasant, although she did experience some of the perceptual phenomena discussed below. 

There appears to be no doubt that the design concerns that have been discussed are important in the specific case of designing facilities for the care and treatment of the mentally ill. The degree to which the architectural environment supports the medical program at the Yorkton Psychiatric Centre, and at other hospitals that have been designed with perceptual considerations in mind, has not yet been measured and may be difficult to measure. However, there is a slow accumulation of information confirming the validity of the argument that the environment does have contributory effects and merits serious concern. Some of this information comes from former patients and chronic patients who, in their lucid moments, have described their environmental needs. 

With the development of a modular designed facility, it was possible to tailor the facility to meet the individual requirements of each installation. 

State lab directors determine whether public health labs in their states should be included in the network. Membership is not automatic. Prospective reference labs must have the equipment, trained personnel, properly designed facilities, and must demonstrate testing accuracy. State lab directors determine the criteria for inviting sentinel labs to join the LRN.
