As already discussed, in general, polymer flow models consist of the equations of continuity, motion, constitutive and energy. The constitutive equation in generalized Newtonian models is incorporated into the equation of motion and only in the modelling of viscoelastic flows is a separate scheme for its solution reqixired. [Pg.71]

Early in the synthesis of separation schemes for nonideal Hquid mixtures, it may not be known exactly where in the flow sheet a strategic separation is going to be, only that it is required some place in some form in order to overcome or exploit a particular critical feature. Thus, strategic separations often... [Pg.449]

As an example of the capabilities of a combination of INAA and RNAA using a two group separation scheme for the simultaneous determination of As, Cd, Cu, Mo, Sb, Hg, and Se (Kucera and Soukal 1993), and a single separation procedure for vanadium determination (Byrne and Kucera 1991), Table 3.8 shows results for NIST-SRM-i573a Tomato Leaves that were obtained prior to certification of this material (Kucera 1995), and later on taken into consideration for deriving the NIST certified and information values (Becker 1995, personal communication). [Pg.70]

High-performance liquid chromatography has been used for the separation of Amadori products (2 ) and for the isolation of 3,8-dihydroxy-2-methylchromone from the products of xylose degradation at 100° (J3). In 1981 (4j we reported an HPLC separation scheme for the colored products of the xylose/glycine reaction. [Pg.103]

The separation scheme for coconut fatty acid is shown in Fig. 36.7. A variety of alternate fractionation schemes can readily be devised. [Pg.1713]

The separation scheme for deasphaltened bitumen on silica [WOELM, activated at 140°C (4 hr)] is shown in Figure 1. The fractions obtained were loosely termed hydrocarbons. Polar I, II, and III. The IR spectra of these fractions, as shown in Figure 2, suggested that Polar I was very similar to the polyaromatic/neutral polar fraction from the API 60-based separation after removal of additional material from alumina with pure benzene. Also, simulated distillation curves for this fraction from either procedure are very similar (Figure 3). The IR spectra of the Polar II and III fractions show the presence of all the functional groups which can be distinguished in these complex mixtures and which... [Pg.119]

Residue curve maps are being employed in an industrially useful method for the synthesis of separation schemes for azeotropic systems. To a first approximation, the compositions of the overhead and underflow of a single-feed continuous distillation column lie on the same residue curve therefore, it is not possible for the composition profile of a continuous distillation column to cross into different regions. The boundary that a distillation composition profile can never cross is called a distillation boundary. The precise location of distillation boundaries is a function of reflux ratio, but distillation boundaries closely approximate the RCM separatrices. Distillation boundaries connect azeotropic and pure component compositions just as separatrices do. If an RCM separatrix exists, a corre.sponding distillation boundary will also exist. [Pg.40]

Steam cracking of ethane is the most widely used process for making ethylene. U.S. 6,578,378 (to Technip-Coflexip) gives a typical ethane cracker product composition and describes an improved separation process for ethylene recovery. U.S. 5,990,370 (to BP) gives yields for ethane, propane, and mixtures. U.S. 5,271,827 (to Stone Webster) gives details of furnace design and yields for a naphtha feed. Several other separation schemes for ethylene and propylene recovery are described in the literature. Estimate the cost of production for a new steam cracking facility that produces 1 million metric tons per year of ethylene and 600,000 metric tons per year of propylene. What feedstock would you recommend ... [Pg.1147]

A separation scheme for methanol removal from a methanol rich methanol/ethyl acetate mixture is shown below. The mixture is distilled to the azeotrope, taking out pure methanol as bottom product. The overhead stream is passed directly to a vapor permeation unit, which permeates a methanol rich stream. This stream is condensed and passed back to the methanol column, via the feed buffer (Fig. 27). [Pg.2048]
