Seltzer

Experiments are described for determining GO2 in carbonated beverages, NaHG03 in Alka-Seltzer tablets, and the molecular weight of GO2. Garbon dioxide is collected in NaOH and the concentrations of G03 are determined by titrating with a standard solution of HGl to the phenolphthalein and methyl orange end points. [Pg.358]

TDS affects taste also, and waters over 500 - 600 ppm can taste poor. When the levels top 1500 ppm, most people will report the water tastes very similar to weak alka-seltzer. TDS is removed by distillation, reverse-osmosis or electrodialysis. In our area, most desalination projects, both large and small are accomplished with reverse-osmosis. Depending on the water chemistry, reverse osmosis systems are the most popular, given their low cost and ease of use. Distillers work very well also, and produce very high quality water, but require electricity and higher... [Pg.366]

An Alka-Seltzer tablet gives off carbon dioxide when dissolved in aqueous solution. The gas is used to drive hydrogen sulfide out of drilling fluid samples. The H S then reacts with lead acetate paper in the bottle cap. The degree of discoloration is related to hydrogen sulfide concentrations. [Pg.1318]

But cocktails are part of the plan. Wolf s Royal Cream Soda is good, if you like cream soda (I do). For the record, it s kosher, too. The production of Absolut is supervised by Rabbi Moshe Edelmann in Sweden. Dr. Brown s Cream Soda, which originated in 1869 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, bears the KOF-K certificate of rabbinical supervision. Dr. Brown s drinks, including cherry soda and Cel-Ray Soda, a seltzer produced with celery seed, were most popular in Jewish delis before Coca-Cola became kosher, early in the 1930s. [Pg.112]

The Southside has the easy fit of a child s signet ring. Not adult like a cocktail, but two ounces of responsibility nevertheless. The fresh mint is a reality check in what could otherwise be a lemonade. Liberals make it with lime. A Southside Fizz is topped with seltzer, like a bromide. [Pg.119]
