The properties of a pH electrode are characterized by parameters like linear response slope, response time, sensitivity, selectivity, reproducibility/accuracy, stability and biocompatibility. Most of these properties are related to each other, and an optimization process of sensor properties often leads to a compromised result. For the development of pH sensors for in-vivo measurements or implantable applications, both reproducibility and biocompatibility are crucial. In this section, the aim is to explain how the previously discussed results can be implemented in an industrially acceptable setup, taking into account parameters such as long-term stability, selectivity, reproducibility, simplicity and low cost. When considering the use of microreaction technology, from the perspective of high-throughput organic synthesis, the main benefit that this technique offers is increased reaction control, which in itself affords many practical advantages to the user. As a result of the small reactor dimensions, rapid mixing of reactants, and an even temperature distribution are observed, which not only increase the uniformity of reaction conditions, but also afford increased reaction safety, selectivity, reproducibility, and efficiency when compared to conventional batch reactors where hot spot formation can lead to the formation of by-products and the risk of thermal runaway. [Pg.104]

Since conclusions reached in forensic laboratories are used in the criminal justice system, they must leave no room for doubt. Thus, analytical methods must meet strict criteria.
