The selection of mix ingredients may depend heavily on the type of adhesive applieation equipment used. The main types of equipment for plywood and LVL are roll coaters, spray systems, eurtain coaters, and foam extruders. When foam extruders are used, animal blood and surfactants are usually added to the mill mix. For other application systems, resin producers typieally supply the non-filler additives as part of the resin eomposition. 

In machine-tool operations, as in all others, the wisest course for the user is to employ reputable lubricants in the manner recommended by the machine-tool manufacturer and the oil company supplying the product. This policy simplifies the selection and application of machine tool lubricants. The user can rest assured that all the considerations outlined above have been taken into account by both authorities. 

A selection of applications is presented in the following subsections solar cells, TFTs, light sensors (visible, IR, X-ray), and chemical sensors. Also, light-emitting devices, in particular utilizing erbium incorporation in a-Si H, are presented. Finally, electrostatic loudspeakers in which an a-Si H film is incorporated are described. Details of various applications described here, as well as many other applications, can be found in the excellent edited books [4, 5, 11,13, 574]. 

In the following, some selected classes of reactions and applications of Ni11 polyazamacrocyclic complexes are discussed. Other applications include, inter alia, the electrochemical reduction of allyl ethers1613 and the epoxidation of alkenes.1614...

The work of Sheehy concentrated on the enhancement of oil recovery from a reservoir using microorganisms, and led to the patent, Oil Recovery Using Microorganisms [24], The main idea was to use a biocide to selectively kill certain microorganisms and then induce the growth of others by carefully controlled nutritional conditions. This idea has potential for some other applications and could be extrapolated to in situ refining. 

Cryptands of the type (217)-(220) tend to form stable complexes with a number of heavy metal ions. Of particular interest is the selectivity of (219) for Cd(n) the complex of this metal is approximately 106-107 times more stable than its complexes with either Zn(n) or Ca(n). This reagent may prove useful for removing toxic Cd(n) from biological systems as well as for other applications involving sequestration of this ion (for example, in antipollution systems). The selectivity observed in the above case appears to arise because (i) the nitrogen sites favour coordination to Zn(n) and Cd(n) relative to Ca(n) and (ii) the cavity size favours coordination of Cd(n) relative to Zn(n). 

Calcium-selective electrodes have long been in use for the estimation of calcium concentrations - early applications included their use in complexometric titrations, especially of calcium in the presence of magnesium (42). Subsequently they have found use in a variety of systems, particularly for determining stability constants. Examples include determinations for ligands such as chloride, nitrate, acetate, and malonate (mal) (43), several diazacrown ethers (44,45), and methyl aldofuranosides (46). Other applications have included the estimation of Ca2+ levels in blood plasma (47) and in human hair (where the results compared satisfactorily with those from neutron activation analysis) (48). Ion-selective electrodes based on carboxylic polyether ionophores are mentioned in Section IV.B below. Though calcium-selective electrodes are convenient they are not particularly sensitive, and have slow response times. 

The use of visible and UV spectrometry for quantitative analysis by comparing the absorbance of standards and samples at a selected wavelength is one of the most widespread of all analytical techniques. It is also one of the most sensitive. The analysis of mixtures of two or more components is facilitated by the additivity of absorbances. This has been discussed earlier (p. 356). Other applications include measurement of the absorption of complexes as a function of solution conditions or time to establish their composition, and to determine thermodynamic and kinetic stability for analytical purposes or for more fundamental studies. 

Unfortunately, this strategy does not provide assurance that the selected items can discriminate taxon and nontaxon members adequately along the entire range of the construct. Two other applications of catalyst 364, i.e. in cycloaddition reactions of a-substituted acroleins with dienes 374 and 376, have been depicted in equations 110 and 111237. Cycloadducts 375 and 377 have been used as precursors in the syntheses of cassiol and gibberellic acid, respectively. The use of catalysts 364 and 369b in cycloadditions with acrolein resulted in low enantioselectivities with opposite face selectivities.
