SELECT program

For crossflow designs the additional factor of the horizontal depth of packing has to be included in the basic calculations. The accuracy of the design is directly related to the number of calculations in the selection program. Whereas counterflow can be dealt with as a single entity, crossflow has to cope with the changes that occur at every level of pack, both vertically and horizontally.

The fortunate constellation of scientists at Wisconsin facilitated further achievements toward increasing pigment content in red beets. In a recurrent selection program, betalain contents of red beet crops were enhanced by 200%. This example should encourage both food scientists and plant breeders to join forces and invest in the improvement of promising color crops.

After selecting Programs, this menu appears. 

We click on Start and select Programs, Aspen Tech, Aspen Engineering Suite, Aspen Plus 2004, and Aspen Plus User Interface. The window shown in Figure 2.26 opens. A Blank Simulation is selected, and clicking OK opens a blank flowsheet shown in Figure 2.27. 

A recent trend in library design is to optimize libraries over a number of properties simultaneously for example, whether a library is designed to be diverse, focused or some combination of the two, it is desirable that the library is cheap to synthesis and that the compounds contained within the library have drug-like physicochemical properties. Most approaches to multiobjective library design combine the different properties via a weighted-sum fitness function. For example, in the SELECT program the fitness function can have the following form ... 

Most approaches to tackling this problem make use of a weighted-sum fitness function, such as the one in Eq. (3) that is used in the SELECT program [32]. 

The Project Manager is not expected to perform any inspections but only to have sufficient knowledge of the inspection process to ascertain that it is properly done. Obviously, inspection has to follow a selective program. It would be a serious misuse of resources to subject every piece of equipment to a rigorous inspection procedure. As already mentioned, the Project Manager must develop a sensible program with the contractor and/or the CED specialists.
