A study that estimates the protection provided by a respirator within a specific respirator program. Like the Effective Protection Factor (EPF), it is focused not only on the respirator s performance, but also on the effectiveness of the complete respirator program. PPFs are affected by all factors of the program, including respirator selection and maintenance, user training and motivation, work activities, and program administration. Before undertaking a program of evaluating inhibitors for effectiveness in mitigating corrosion, one must review the overall problem and determine what is required of the inhibitor, that is, exactly what parameters are to be tested and what factors affect test results. These questions and their answers will help in obtaining meaningful data for selection of the most efficient inhibitor in the environment of interest. The first step is to select the critical environmental conditions of interest and to incorporate them in the test.

This approach still requires an effective laboratory/pilot scale development program and an understanding of the variables that affect the product properties. 

Thus these various factors within a cooling system (internal factors), which have an interactive effect and significantly affect program selection, must also be taken into account. 

An important characteristic of primary optimization parameters is that whereas they have a large effect on the capacity factors of the solutes, they have a relatively minor effect on the selectivity (a). This implies that the factors involved in optimizing an analysis program (the initial and final conditions, programming rate and shape of the program) do not affect the chromatographic selectivity to a large extent. This will be even more true...
