Security closed-circuit television

An important principle is that security must be built in depth - otherwise known as defense in depth. In this context, it may be helpful to think of security as a set of concentric rings, where the target is located at the center. Each ring represents a level of physical protection (perimeter fence, building shell, security case) but the number of rings and security resistance will vary relative to the risk. The spaces between the rings may represent other defensive measures such as closed-circuit television (CCTV), security lighting, intruder alarm systems, etc. 

Preventing unauthorized access into a warehouse may require certain security features. Unauthorized access may be motivated by theft or other illegal or destructive purposes. CCTV systems range from a single monitor with just one camera dedicated to monitoring perhaps a hotel car park, through to systems with many internal and external cameras connected to several locations for monitoring perhaps a shopping precinct. 

Cinematography also has important applications in the security industry. Both private security firms and public agencies make use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) technology—a system in which the video imaging signals from one or more cameras are transmitted to a restricted set of monitors—to keep a continuous record of what takes place in businesses such as banks, convenience markets, and hospitals, and public areas with a high record of criminal activity. 

The security training area consists of large room that can accommodate eight closed-circuit television stations. 

Arson is a real risk on sites particularly where trespassers can enter the site fairly easily. Measures should be in place to prevent unauthorized access, especially of children. Flammables should be securely stored or if necessary removed from the site. In some particularly vulnerable sites security patrols, flood lighting, liaison with local police or even closed circuit television (CCTV) may be needed. 

Closed circuit television is one of the most effective security arrangements to deter crime and violence. Because of the high cost of the equipment, it is essential to ensure that proper independent advice is obtained on the type and the extent of the system required.

Additionally, background checks should be performed on all employees as well as third party contractors with access to sensitive areas.
