Zyomyx chip technology is based upon an atomically flat gold surface to which is attached a proprietary SAM (self-assembled monolayer) surface for optimal protein binding (Peluso et al., 2003). The company launched its Protein Profiling Biochip System and Human Cytokine Biochip products in February 2003. 

We have listed the hrst three of the six experiments (a-c) below. Arrange them in order of complexity (and, hence, the order in which they will be performed), identifying the correct ordinal language (hrst, second, third) where indicated. Formation and characterization of a well-ordered monolayer prepared by adsorbing thiophene onto Au(l 1 1) (96L6167). Exposure of Au(l 1 1) surfaces to an ethanol solution of thiophene produces a stable SAM (self-assembled monolayer) which is strikingly similar to SAMs obtained by reacting Au(l 11) with alkanethiols or dialkylsulfides. 

In one such approach we seek to exploit the potential signal transduction properties of the thermochromic Dawson [40] polyoxometalates and combine this with a fluorescent POM-hybrid to produce a device that could respond optically as a function of the local environment, see Figure 2.12. In this example, the clusters would be positioned on a gold surface using SAMs (Self-assembled monolayer) with a cationic tail and local positional control could be aimed using self-assembly, or even by means of an atomic force microscope tip. 

In addition, the patterning method presented here is not restricted only to glass substrates unlike the use of patterned SAMs (self-assembled monolayers), where the choice of substrates is limited. In general this method would allow for the photogeneration of patterns of CaCOj on a variety of substrates, including e.g. conducting polymers, which would be beneficial for electrical stimulation of cells to enhance their proliferation and differentiation. 

In the two-state approximation (TSA), ET kinetics for the DBA —> D" BA process may be modeled in terms of initial- ( ,) and final-state (T /) wave-functions, in which the transferring charge is localized primarily on the D and A sites, respectively. In the case of electrodes (e.g., metal or semiconductor), where multiple electronic states are involved, the D and A sites may still be taken to be localized and to involve atomic sites of the electrode near the site/or sites of attachment or contact with the bridge) SAM = self assembled monolayer STM = scanning tunneling microsccopy.
