Safety spacing requirements

This document highlights spacing requirements for equipment and access widths and elevation clearances for operator and maintenance access. A typical plant layout specification can be found in Chapter 2. The sample specification shown in Exhibit 3-9 highlights the safety spacing requirements around a process furnace. [Pg.33]

Ground area and. space requirement.s. Comparisons of the overall space requirements for plants using air cooling versus water cooling are not consistent. Some air-cooled units are installed above other equipment—pipe racks, shell-and-tube exchangers, etc. Some plants avoid such inst ations because of safety considerations, as discussed later. [Pg.1081]

Aim to protect the health and safety of everyone m the workplace and ensure that adequate welfare facilities are provided. Covers e.g. general ventilation, temperature m indoor workplaces, lighting, cleanliness, space requirements, condition of floors and traffic routes, measures against falls/fallmg objects, washing facilities. [Pg.596]

In an educational laboratory, fume hood space requirements are substantial, since so many students need a hood at the same time. Many operations that used to be performed on the bench must now be done in a hood for safety reasons. Inadequate hood space has caused many problems even in fairly modem university chemistry buildings. [Pg.10]

Layout spacings are also affected by other factors than safety. The space requirements of maintenance, repair works and proper performing of process operations has to be included into the process layout. Proper spacing around equipment is required to allow easy operation. Enough room should be provided for pipes, supports and foundations as well. [Pg.75]

The main difference between the two systems was the fact that oxygen was stored in the test bench and used in the fuel cell, increasing efficiency but also space and safety measures requirements. [Pg.92]

Fires, explosions and toxic releases may have impacts inside the plant. For example, they may alfect installations adjacent to their place of origin and thus lead to the so-called Domino elfect. Since their intensity diminishes with distance (e.g. inversely proportional or inversely proportional to the square), distances between equipments make sense from the safety standpoint. On the other hand, they produce costs because of increased space requirements and higher energy consumption for the transport of materials. [Pg.145]

Low space requirements of devices Integration of functions like reverse transcription process (for gene expression studies), on-line measurement of double-strand DNA concentration, or real-time measurement by multi-sensor arrangements Hence, miniaturized PCR devices are very interesting for a broader application of PCR in laboratories as well as for point-of-care diagnostics, screenings, or investigations for food safety and environmental protection [7, 8]. [Pg.2684]

Disadvantages Requires large floor space May require specialized assembly or maintenance More technical to operate Greater safety precautions required Slower production than horizontal baler Lower bale density than horizontal baler... [Pg.64]

Since the launching of the first artificial satellites, astronomy, or rather, space and planetary science, has assumed an even greater role in applied science. The safety of astronauts working in space requires understanding the dynamics of solar flares. A deeper understanding of the solar atmosphere and its dynamics could also have important consequences for long-range weather prediction. [Pg.2186]
