What lies behind the result of a patient safety culture assessment In this chapter we have examined the notion of a safety culture from a systems thinking perspective. In doing so, we depict it as the interpretation of the dynamic relationship between goals, priorities and activities within an organisation. Therefore it is not so much a fixed, essential quality as an ongoing achievement between the organisational members (whether management or frontline ) in the context of the broader envirorunent. [Pg.113]

The ChemLeg program, in turn, focused on closer cooperation between policy makers, industry experts and national federations to facilitate the implementation of these standards. The main indicators of achievement were the enlargement of CEFIC with new full and associate CEFIC members representing nine of the ten Central and Eastern Europe states that subsequently joined the European Union the creation of an influential regional network of chemical industry and active involvement in European advocacy on the part of federations from Central and Eastern Europe (Doktor 2002). This article briefly describes new Dutch and UK test methods for measuring the migration of phthalate plasticisers in PVC toys. Companies Hasbro and Mattel have already adopted these methods. The Toy Industries of Europe organisation hopes that the new test methods will eventually lead to a common method within the EU to ensure the safety of toys and child care items to reassure consumers, and hopes that their use will spread to other member states. [Pg.111]
