Routine calls

The size separation of proteins has been routinely called gel filtration because of the historic use of cross-linked gels for this application. Specially modified Zorbax PSM columns, Zorbax GF-250 and Zorbax GE-450, are used for separating proteins by size. These columns are packed with porous silica micro-... [Pg.86]

The number of levels of explanation available depends on the nesting of routine calls at run-time. The hierarchical organization of modules makes it easier to control and understand the run-time behavior of rule execution. [Pg.23]

A different classification scheme for DEs, short for differential equations, separates those DEs with a single independent variable dependence, such as only time or only 1-dimensional position, from those depending on several variables, such as time and spatial position. DEs involving a single independent variable are routinely called ODEs, or ordinary differential equations. DEs involving several independent variables such as space and time are called PDEs, or partial differential equations because they involve partial derivatives. [Pg.34]

Linear and nonlinear programming solvers have been interfaced to spreadsheet software for desktop computers. The spreadsheet has become a popular user interface for entering and manipulating numeric data. Spreadsheet software increasingly incorporates analytic tools that are accessible from the spreadsheet interface and permit access to external databases. For example, Microsoft Excel incorporates an optimization-based routine called Solver that operates on the values and formulas of a spreadsheet model. Current versions (4.0 and later) include LP and NLP solvers and mixed integer programming (MIP) capability for both linear and nonlinear problems. The user specifies a set of cell addresses to be independently adjusted (the decision variables), a set of formula cells whose values are to be constrained (the constraints), and a formula cell designated as the optimization objective. [Pg.35]

MATLAB Example 7.3b employs the function that calculates ssq (and also C). It is repeatedly used by the simplex routine called in MATLAB Example 7.3a. In Ligure 7.2 we have already seen a plot of the experimental data together with their fit. [Pg.226]

System self-checks and enumerates hardware resources. Each machine has a different startup routine, called the POST (power on self-test), which is executed by the commands written to the motherboard of the computer. Newer Plug-and-Play boards not only check memory and processors, they also poll the systems for other devices and peripherals. [Pg.554]

Excel has the capability of using routines called Macros that can be called inside the spreadsheet. These routines can be programs written in a version of the BASIC programming language called Visual Basic for Applications. Macros can be obtained from other sources, such as internet websites, and placed in any spreadsheet. [Pg.67]

The unique properties of the orbitals associated with diagonal e have been mentioned before they are routinely called the molecular orbitals and the diagonal elements of this e the orbital energies. Let us now establish this result. [Pg.447]

Classes may have routines, called constructors and destructors, that are called automatically when a class instance is created or destroyed. Constructors are responsible for initializing a class, while destructors perform any necessary cleanup. Constructors are also used to convert items of another type to the class type. For example, a class that represents complex numbers might have a constructor that would convert a double into a complex. [Pg.32]

Situations will vary and are not predictable. Many high-risk calls resolve into a non-event, whereas routine calls can evolve into a life-threatening scenario. The key is for all responders to practice the same initial approach to calls regardless of the call s apparent nature. Every call or incident should be assessed in the same manner, with appropriate tactics practiced as needed. Any hazardous materials incident is a possible terrorist attack, especially if multiple casualties are involved. Also, any multicasualty incident that appears unusual, or any report of unusual casualties from an unknown source, should raise a red caution flag and be approached as a possible terrorist attack (Box 1-2). [Pg.16]

Based on the information you have obtained en route to the scene, you should be able to differentiate between a high-risk call, a suspicious call, and a routine call. [Pg.160]

Routine. Routine calls include those with a known medical or other problem in a low-risk location with no unusual factors. This does not mean that you let your guard down when approaching the scene. [Pg.160]

Many liquid chlorine lines are fitted with expansion chambers to provide some volume for thermal expansion. The intent is to prevent dangerous increases in pressure as liquid chlorine in a static line becomes warmer. These chambers, their function, and their sizing are the subject of Section 9.1.10.4. When called for, they should be installed above the lines in question and subjected to the routines called for in the precommissioning procedures. Each chamber should be filled with dry air or an inert gas. Compression of this gas provides the buffer against expansion. Part of the commissioning documentation should be a schedule giving the appropriate pressures for all chambers. [Pg.1243]

The technique employs a least-squares fit to a cubic polynomial on parameter values that have been previously generated either by the extended mean value theorem (EMVT) or by previous curve fits. The solution of the cubic for its roots at the desired value of R-Cffective completes one pass for the fixed value search while the solution of its derivative provides information about maximum values. This new search technique has been implemented in a FORTRAN routine called OPTMIZ which will eventually be part of a module in the SCALE system. [Pg.651]

The M CODE has then been overlaid with a routine called MASK that limits what information is actually presented to the analyst on the computer screen. [Pg.229]

One goal of this chapter was to develop tools for comparing the thermodynamics of one reaction to another, where acid-base chemistry was our setting. In that regard, this chapter allowed us to analyze again many of the chemical effects that chemists routinely call upon to explain trends—namely, induction, resonance, aromaticity, solvation, hybridization, polarizability, and electrostatics. Although none of these effects were new, this chapter showed for the first time how their interplay affects the thermodynamics of reactions. Really, the only common effect that was not focused upon in this chapter is that of sterics, because a proton is so small that steric effects are minimal. [Pg.292]
