Role, emergency duties

Roie - fire incident controiier is a term used to describe those responsible for coordinating fire wardens/marshals in their proactive and reactive roles. FICs will normally nominate and organise fire wardens and marshals to ensure that fire risk is effectively managed on a day-to-day basis within the workplace. Formal patterns of training for all duties at nuclear power stations are given in Standard Specifications and some of these are outlined below. A training register must be maintained and be available for inspection. In addition to their normal duties, those with roles in the Emergency Arrangements, such as fire fighting, first aid, etc., must be trained and instructed in these duties, with records kept for inspection. 

During emergencies within TA-V, the SNL/NM IC established by the ICS and the TA-V duty EMSUP established by the TA-V EPP share mutually supporting roles. Upon arrival at TA-V, the SNL/NM IC normally conducts or coordinates all communications through the ICS prior to that, the TA-V EMSUP coordinates external communications through the TA-V Emergency team s External Communicator. 

Centre Intemationeil de Lutte contre la Pollution de FAtlantique du N.E. (CILPLAN) performs the secretariat duties as well as the role of an emergency coordinating center. 

The fire safety manager and/or fire safety coordinator will, in most cases, require the assistance of competent fire wardens or fire marshals (these terms are interchangeable). Fire wardens/marshals have two distinct roles first, they will assist in the overall management of fire safety in a workplace (active management) and second, they will undertake specific duties in the event of a fire emergency to ensure the full and safe evacuation of all people in the premises and to ensure, as far as is possible, the risk of fire spread is minimised (see Chapter 10). 

The emergency response plan should incorporate a brief description of the role played by each person involved in the emergency response. Duties such as contact with the state and federal government agencies and the news media must be preassigned. Crowd control responsibilities should also be assigned to one person.
