Risk allocation

Strict liability is a two-part social policy enforced by the courts. The first part of the policy is risk allocation -manufacturers who benefit from the sale of their products in the market place are to compensate consumers who are injured by those products because the manufacturer is in a better position to bear the cost of such ipjuries-directly or through insurance. The second concept is an incentive to deterrence -the manufacturer is in the best position to discover defects or dangers in his product and to take steps to guard against them. ...

Our main interest in this chapter is to get a better understanding of inventory risk allocation issues in drop-shipping supply chains as well as the impact of power distribution between the channel entities. To keep focus and to not diffuse economic insights, we do not explicitly reflect other issues encountered in e-commerce fulfillment, since many are hard to include in a formal model. Among these issues are possible differences in transportation costs and responsiveness, coordination issues arising when multiple wholesalers are needed to fulfill a single order, and the rationing of inventory when a wholesaler serves multiple retailers. These and other issues are treated qualitatively in Randall et al. (2002).

This risk allocation shows the responsibility of the Client to provide accurate soil information to enable Contractors to define their work method and to make their cost assessment. Failing this, adverse soil conditions may be encountered which could have a consequence for the work method such as deployment of additional equipment, change of equipment and extension of the construction period. This matrix also classifies risk of each hazard into three levels high, medium, and low. This matrix is useful if there is a need to allocate a risk allocation to the JAR/FAR criteria. However, be careful to distinguish between hazards and accidents, which could both be allocated the same risk level. For instance, an accident which has a remote probability of killing a small number of persons should surely have a higher risk level that a hazardous failure condition (such as loss of attitude data) which is also remote in occurrence.
